This is one amazing external portable DAC which connects and improves the sounds of many of my audio devices:1) It connect to my iPhone 15 Pro Max via USB-C which allows me to stream hi-res audio from Apple Music ( it shows 96khz or even 192khz on the display) which sounds amazing2) It connects to my CD player via Toslink Optical input and provides huge improvement in sound quality compared to the built-in DAC of my old CD player3) With its RCA output I can listen to high-res streaming music to my amplifier / speaker.4) The sound quality is simply amazing - the background noise is virtually non-existent, the full and weighty bass, clear mids, and exquisite highs esp. when streaming hi-def audio music.5) Agree with other comments about the ergonomics - The volume dial looks the same as the mode switch dial which is confusing. The "3 second hold" the volume dial to power on is inconvenient. The tiny display is hard to see without reading glasses for aging eyes. Finally the all metal construction is study but quite chunky and heavy / not quite pocketable.6. Recommend getting the leather case to prevent scratching its nice metal casing.

I wanted to really love this dac because it sounds incredible but it's not really a portable device. You can't definitely keep it in yout pocket. I thought it would be bulky but it's to bulky and heavy. If you plan to walk run or bike around you will eventually sooner than later will bust the headphone jacks. The knob and push navigation system could be really good but in this case is badly implemented and it's also slow operational, for example to bring extra functions you have to push hold the knobs for like over 3 seconds. It might sound like no big deal but I'm no stranger to dacs and daps and this device is on the frustrating side of operational intuitivness.Screen could be much better for the price. Hifi players half the cost have way way better screens. For example HiBy m300 or FiiO btr7Battery is always draining considerable fast even in iddle or low volume operation. I'm not sure but I also think I noticed much more heat when higher bitrates where streaming, although I haven't tried dsd in this device. The built in player using the micros card is very basic. I'm not even sure it can shuffle around subfolders and main directory. If you can put all your songs on the main directory and don't mind shuffle in this way then it might work for you, otherwise you could use their app to see Playlist atc, but like I said it just doesn't connect to any device. FiiO control was very seemless connection even when sharing the FiiO btr7 with 2 devices at same time.Really sad because the product is very good sounding wise. It's a syrupy warm lushy sound with lots of macro dynamism and textured bass. Real note weight in the mids, Sweet analogish sounding, etcThis is a good option for a transportable mid desktop solution but defelinitly not something to keep with you while moving around. If they had made it as light as possible, put a bigger battery w better energy management and even perhaps get rid of the fancy knobs and use faster buttons and a better screen, then they will have a killer product. And if I dream a bit more I would love to see an app with a parametric eq like HiBy of fiioAnother thing that I have seen people complain about a lot is the high impedance they used in the output stage. It might affect some sensitive iems and maybe some headphones. I'm not sure if this will also affect the RCA outputs as well.Update:The Bluetooth sounds really good even with the limitations of sound quality that Apple has, and in windows or android the BT sounds even better. It's worth mentioning because the BT sound running here is superior to other competitors. There is no desktop mode battery management in this Dac. Meaning that if you want to use this as a permanent solution in your home or office where you would keep the device pluged all the time, your battery will be kept and charging at 100 percent all the time, leading to premature battery degradation and potential battery buldge.Without a global parametric EQ like the one on the FiiO btr7 operating at system level on iPad and android, I still wanted to at least try the basic eq that comes with the h5 music player app, but I'm still unable to connect their app via Bluetooth on either iPad or Android.

I've had the H5 for over 6 months now. I can't consistently get it to output to my home stereo or car audio via the rca or usb. The SyncLink usually take a few tries to actually connect. The sound via the headphones outputs is decent, but so far it's been a big disappointment. I am currently running firmware version 1.4. I would NOT recommend this device.

I'm using this in an unorthodox way. For soothing sleep sounds into a powered sound bar. I tried three cheaper MP3 players and they were all lacking in output and fidelity. Not these baby's though. They have a robust sound output and great fidelity. The instructions could be better. This device has two menus that are accessed with the same control. The guide could be better describe this.

Like the fact this connects to iphone via cable ( special adapter) or blue tooth, also can play from the micro sd card if you insert one of your own , covers all bases for me , I use the 4.4 out port because has more juice than the 3.5 port going into car radio aux port

Newer Shanling house sound. I have an M6 Pro and not quite the same. Left pot is for all the options including single and dual dac and gain modes. Only used balanced connection via optical input. Tried coxial but prefer optical connection. Tried LDAC bluetooth off my phone to H6 and fantastic sound. Was not able to get eddict player to connect but I mainly wanted a shangling house sound dac. Easy update to version 1.2 firmware. Single Dac is great for single drivers and dual dac mode is great for hybrid iems. 90% of my OG Shanling M6 Pro but at half the price but also slighly diffrent sound signature. I believe this is the new shanling sound. Single dac mode makes my HD600 really sing. Dual dac is great for Hybrid IEMS such as Monarch, Clairvoyance or Oracle. Sound: Full note weight, smooth treble. Deep and full bass. Shangling house sound is for enjoying music! Addendum, old school thinking optical connection is better, tried usb connection and it is much better sounding than optical or coxial. Optical had a softer sounding edges, and usb is much sharper edges, clearer and more impactful sound. At usb high gain, the h6 sounds much closer to the m6 pro at high gain. Also, Near Silibant IEMS such as EA500 and EA500LM, are not silibant at all with the H5. Just a great DAC.
