Have these installed in one of my NAS and its working good. Recognized immediately and rebuilt the array no problem. No strange sounds, no hot spots, and overall working fine. A strong choice if you need to expand local storage or if you just need it to work along side what you have. I've had the longest one in over a year and haven't had a failure yet so I can say these are working as expected.

I needed to get a bigger backup disk, and this one was quite a bit cheaper, being "pre-used". I formatted it the slow way to check for bad blocks and it all looks good, and I've been using it for several weeks now with no issues.

Refurbished, re-certified, recycled, call it what you want... It is used. Now, considering it has a theoretical mean time before failure of about 200 years, used may not be as bad as it sounds. The drive is full of helium inert gas, so the environment inside the drive is as pristine as it gets. The downside is the helium could leak out, but it seldom does, because the drive is literally welded shut. My drive tested at 100% helium fill remaining. Welded shut also means that there can be no meaningful "refurbishment" other than a functional test, and the counters get zeroed. Hopefully any firmware updates get applied too. Bottom line; I bought the best storage technology I can buy, for pennies on the dollar, compared to new price. The drive is very fast, and quiet, for a large capacity drive. I use it for backups, and appreciate the large capacity. At this price, I can have several backups. So far, no problems. The drive may outlive me, or quit tomorrow, but that is the nature of electro-mechanical devices, even if you buy them new. One factor that is seldom mentioned. If your computer has a high quality power supply, the hard drives, and most other parts will last longer.

As others have noted, this batch of drives has been powered on for over 44000 hours, or 5 years. The old product descriptions may have said otherwise (zero hours) but that description has been taken down since I purchased them. Nevertheless, it looks like the drives were just turned on and staying idle. As the CrystalDiskInfo shows, all health indicators are full (correct me in the comment if I am wrong).P.S. the drive says HGST because HGST was acquired by WD and WD rebranded their drive. Search WD Ultrastar DC HC510 10TB SATA Hard Drive Review and you will see why.

Didn't get a Western Digital hard drive as advertised, but instead got a Hitachi (HSGT). In the description above it says you are getting a "zero hours usage" drive. Running Crystal Disk I saw it was just over 44,000 hours, just as another commentor mentioned. The description says 1yr warranty, but in the box there was a card saying a 5yr warranty(?).The drive was shipped in a box you should use for shipping hard drives. It was sealed in a static bag and the drive itself looked pretty new. It looked used, but not abused. These are clearly drives from corporate raid arrays. They hit a certain # of hrs and retire the drives. I did a surface scan and it came up 100% usable with no errors. I took this drive and put it into a WD caddy I shucked from a purchase years ago when I just wanted the drive instead and not the caddy. This drive is a perfect replacement for the WD Essentials caddy despite it being HGST.I would do a surface/SMART test on any of these drives before you start using them. I think for $80, this is a very good deal for data you are not super worried about losing (if using a single drive) or a good deal if you want to create a cheap/decent JBOD/RAID array. I just wish the description had been more accurate.

GoHardDrives is an excellent place to buy used / older hardware for a budget price. I've used them for years, and that is why I always keep going back to them. They have always treated me honestly and fairly, so I am a student and always tell everyone at school, professors, IT managers, etc., about GHD.And, nowadays, I prefer to buy older hard drives versus new hard drives, as long as they have a 5-year warranty. It's meaningless to me if they fail a few years down the road, because GHD will replace them (if they are still in warranty and you still have your receipt). And, they are still good drives -- even if used a large number of hours, because (most often) the hard drives from GHD's offerings are higher-grade ones (such as enterprise ones). So, even if those hard drives have seen a large number of hours, they are still made better than consumer grade drives. So, I trust the hard drive offerings from GoHardDrives. And, one more thing, is that they should last just as long (or even longer) than they would in a Server Farm location, because your system is probably not reading and writing from the drives constantly like on a 24 hr/ 7 day/ 365 days a year. So, even if they have high hours, they have seemingly lasted as long as the warranty does.In my situation, I do not believe that I have had to send any drives back -- other than those that came DOA when I first got them. But, again, that's my experience/s and your experience might differ, depending on which drive you luckily (or unluckily) received. So, 5 stars on everything dealing with GHD.Anyway, I hope this helps people make good decisions with the second-hand drives from GoHardDrives.
