Anyone, regardless of prior experience, can instantly play beautiful music with this lap harp (also known as a zither or a folk harp). An excellent way to introduce children to the joys of music. This is so hard to tune and keep in tune, I would be very surprised if people without a music background could tune it. The idea is great, but playing a horribly out of tune instrument is very unpleasant, even for children.

These little zithers are cool, however, they have a hard time staying in tune for any length of time. The one purchased was bought as a gift, so I couldn't modify it. Although, if it were mine, I would measure down each side, make equal markings, and make grooves with a file for the strings to fit into. When the strings slip up or down the side bars (nuts???) they are instantly out of tune. The strings are all the same size, it felt like the 'B' string from an acoustic guitar. The other neat thing I discovered while playing with it a little bit was that you are able to do chords on it. It seemed to be pretty much the same chording as on a piano. So, if you really wanted, you could probably pick a note, and pluck a chord or two.

This instrument can not be tuned. If anybody in your household has an ear for music you will hate it.

I think most people bought this as a toy, but I am a quirky musician who likes to mix in interesting sounds with the traditional stuff. I am really excited to put this on a song or two. It sounds great. Some of these reviews are a little silly, complaining they paid someone $20 to tune it. It took me maybe 5 minutes to tune it using a keyboard, and no time at all to tune up when a string gets a little off since. It is not the products fault you don't have a musical ear, string instruments need tuning. It comes with an extra string and a warranty for additional strings should they ever break. Try finding that with any other instrument, pretty cool. Thanks, what a fun little instrument!

I had one of these growing up and loved that it allowed me to play an instrument even though I was musically challenged. The music sheets that slip right under the strings make it easy for anyone to play! Not only can I who needs the music sheets play it , but my husband (who can play just about any musical instrument by ear) can also make beautiful music on it on his own. It can be used by both the novice and the "professional." The only hesitation I have with it is that it can be difficult to tune and to keep in tune. I would just advise those tuning it to turn the key just the tiniest bit at a time. This particular harp is well made and seems to be of good quallity.

Recived it in great shape and on time. Looks good and is solidly built. Does need tuned. Bought a tuner so its not a major problem. Would by one again. for a gift for child or older.

First problem was that the harp arrived out of tune........since this was a Christmas present, I was hesitant to try and tune the harp myself. Gave it to my granddaughter's piano teacher to tune it, which cost me an additional $20. Other than that, the harp was a big hit.......several family members all wanted to play it. My 10-yr-old granddaughter loves it and it will continue her interest in music since she already takes piano lessons and also received a melodica as a gift.

Harp is very nicely made. Very smooth and no sliver possibilities. Easy to handle by small hands. Has a nice tone to it and is a good introduction to music.
