The solid rosewood body lends itself to the soft gentle curves of this eight string lyre. The eight metal strings provide a classical sound that is enhanced by the solid spruce soundboard. When you are not playing, you can hang it up as a piece of art; it's that pretty. Tuning tool, extra string set included. Hold it upright on your lap or as you walk, and pluck both sides of the strings. Or lay it flat and pluck it. 10 inches wide by 17 inches long, 2.75 inches deep. Suggested tuning is below Middle C High to low C# D# E F G A d g b e#.

this lyre sounds better than others because of its deep sound box. the problem is it friction pegs are not strong enough for steel strings. nylon strings works much better.

It's a BEAUTIFUL INSTRUMENT, but I find great difficulty keeping it in tune due to peg slippage.. I have applied very thin (watery) crazy glue -hobby store item- around the tuning pegs to keep them from slipping. This is common practice for the same problem with pianos.I ordered this as a PROP for an EMPEROR NERO costume. For THAT it worked brilliantly. I "fiddled" while Rome burned! Presently it has a place on my wall with several other small and unusual instruments. Some colorful curtain tassels really makes it "pop" visually

Arrived promptly in perfect condition- beautifully crafted good sound- looking forward to learning to play properly but it sounds great just strumming & plucking !!!

As the title suggests, I'm not really sure what I am doing with this. For some pertinent background, I am not a musician in any sense of the word and have little exposure to instruments. Therefore, consider that this review may come from a bit of a naïve perspective and some terminology may be misplaced.This instrument is fairly simple to tune. With some assistance from others, I have found the process greatly facilitated by a Chromatic Tuner (I used a brand called Korg, though I cannot say if that is the ideal). As another reviewer noted, it takes some repeated tuning before it holds the target notes. After a few weeks (?) of tuning, it seems to hold the target notes fairly well.Knowing what to play (or how to play it) is a bit more of a challenge. Having little experience with instruments, I initially sought some sort of manual or suggested playlist (none is provided with the instrument, though there is a pamphlet with suggested notes for each string). I have yet to find one that seems tailored for this particular instrument. Even a search for "lyre" in general yields results of limited utility, as there are evidently lyres with various styles of playing and number of strings. That said, many simple melodies (?) can be played with some degree of recognizability.Another limitation is in storage; this instrument does not come with a bag or case, nor does one seem to be available from the producer or third party suppliers (specifically for this item). If a case is desired, you will have to find something that fits it. Most of the portable bags I have did not fit the instrument, so I have ended up using a backpack with some padding added.As far as being a vanity item, this instrument does not disappoint. It quickly draws attention and comments, as it is both unique in appearance and apparently well designed. When not in use it easily doubles as a display piece.Overall, I have enjoyed the use of this instrument and found it to be a worthwhile purchase that I would recommend.

This is a very nice instrument. You will have to tune it quite a bit before it will stay tuned. The box that it was in was all damaged but the instrument was perfect. It must be made really well.

This instrument is awesome. I've played guitar for. 25+ years and the lyre was easily adaptable.I also noticed that it improved my guitar playing. After two days with the lyre im composing music. My only issue is wih the strings. At the base they can be a little sharp. I plan on switching to nylon strings to make a more oeganic sound. I highly recommend this instrument. There's a reason why the lyre inspired the constellation, Lyra.
