I ordered a total of 6 of these stands from Amazon in 2 separate orders (3 each time). Out of the 6, only 2 arrived with all the pieces. I tried to call Manfrotto to request the missing pieces (as suggested by Amazon). They told me there was nothing they could do because I ordered it from a third-party (aka Amazon). All 3 of the 4 were missing the main lever. A few were missing the sandbag and top stud. Completely unusable without these pieces. The 2 with all the pieces work great! They’re sturdy and fairly lightweight. I’m excited to have a versatile stand that doubles as a boom. The price dropped between orders, so I’d say they’re worth the price. But seriously order it somewhere else if you want a guarantee of getting a whole product.

In sostanza: penso regga davvero bene! Ottimo acquisto!Unica NOTA NEGATIVA: l'imballo!! Morale: 5 stelle al prodotto, zero all'imballo!

This is a very well made light duty boom! I use this for a hair light and for some back lighting depending on the situation, and it works excellently. I only use it with a small-medium soft box and a speedlight using an S-type mount and it works well for that. This setup does seem to be on the verge of it's abilities with this setup at max extension however, so I would only recommend it for light duty use. As far as the stand quality itself, this is the best stand I own as far as feel (and I have several other Manfrotto compact stands). The release and tensioning mechanisms have a really solid feel, and I love the friction bars top and bottom for moving and securing the legs into position. Both the legs and primary bar have plenty of thickness and heft to them, that I don't expect them to give out for any reason. The only weak spot on this frame is the final extension tube is fairly small and thin, and does flex some even with my light weight setup when making adjustments.I would highly recommend this for light duty use, but I'm not sure it would hold up to heavy mono-lights in a studio. I would definitely look elsewhere for any heavier lighting combos. I imagine this boom will last me for many years to come from it's build quality though! I did opt for iron weights instead of sand for various reasons including wear. If you're into portability there are some great water bladder weight options as well!note: I noticed some reviewers mentioned the adjustment handle was missing from the boom, mine did arrive with this item just fine, and everything was in the package needed for setup.

UPDATE: 7/22/2014: After using this product for 2 years I have no complaints. Every time I go to set it up it takes seconds and is very sturdy. The product is holding up well. I just wish I could afford two more of these. :-)----------------------------------------------------First, hats off to Amazon for their customer service. I received the product on time, but it was missing some key pieces and looked like a used unit. I asked for a replacement and I promptly sent back the unit in question. Two days later the replacement arrived (nice!), in great shape and with all of the pieces. (I also then realized that the first unit was missing Manfrotto documentation, something that the second unit did have). As for the unit itself, I've used it only a couple of times, but it works like a charm. It's exactly what I wanted to complete my three-point lighting system (a relatively cheap system that I pieced together). The one negative is the counterweight bag. I don't like the way it's constructed/arranged. It seems odd to have a hook that hangs the bag vertical, but then have horizontal oriented pockets on the bag. It's not a big deal, just something I noticed. I'll likely get some small weights and stuff them in there.Overall, another great Manfrotto product.

This can be a good stand and I think it will work well for me. I experienced shipping issues and have no idea what is going on with quality control on this unit. The first one I ordered was missing several parts. Now comes what is great about Amazon. I entered a request for exchange and the replacement was on its way before the UPS man picked up the first one the next day. Within two days I had a replacement. Now the bad news. The second one (as with the first one) still did not include the very necessary adjustment lever that tightens the boom arm when extended. I needed to use it and was frustrated so I went to a big box store and purchased a replacement knob for a lawn mower handle and made it work. What is going on here? Two in a row with the lever missing? At least the second one had only one missing part. This is a nice stand but be prepared for some nimble adjustments to balance the counter weighting to match the light. With the Flash Point Cool Light I had to add more sand bags to balance. Tightening the adjustment lever does little more than preventing the boom from sliding. Will not hold the weight. See my photos.

It's a light stand and a boom stand in one - I have no use for microphones in photography but the boom part is good for hair lights, it also is great when I use soft boxes etc. Sandbag included is quite handy and well constructed as well as the rest of unit. It's Manfrotto - they're known for quality goods and this unit is no exception. My only bad experience was in the shipping, the first time around it was rec'd in beat up shape (the box had been opened and taped back up again and the unit was completely out of its plastic sleeve) and without the brass spindle which is necessary for light use. I contacted amazon and they had to send out another unit (instead of just sending the brass spindle) which also came in pretty ratty shape (once again the box had been torn and beat up and the unit was out of its sleeve) but at least it had the spindle.
