I got this for the RJ45 testing functionality and for future plans I have with fiber. The tester works well and correctly matches incorrect pairs and broken connections. The instructions are good enough to use for the most part. It was a little confusing as to how to use the dual function of some of the buttons. I eventually figured it out, but the instructions could be better written. Over all good value for money.

For starters, I will say that if you are looking for one of these, you probably already know how to use it. You'll be grateful for that if you attempt to read the manual, as it is thoroughly unhelpful. Some small parts of it were translated in a way that they almost make sense, but the vast majority of the useful information was lost in translation. Moving beyond the manual, I will say that the measuring functions are much the same as similar meters - set your wavelength using the lambda button, connect a known good jumper from VFL to OPN, then zero the reference dB by pressing REF. All of this works as expected, and the measurements match those of a more expensive meter. It does allow saving measurements via the SAVE key. This meter also has an RJ45 cable tester (this mode tests continuity only, not signal loss), which is oddly not mentioned or depicted in the instructions. To access the RJ45 ports, hold the "Press" button at the bottom of the unit, and slide the bottom off (the "remote" plug is in the removed bottom). This function also works, but again, only measures continuity of the 8 conductors (this is indicated by the 1-8 lights just below the screen). The backlight works fine, the LED "work light" seems useless as the top cover only swings back 90 degrees, and blocks half of the light output from the LED.Now, moving on to my biggest gripes. First, while the device charges via USB C (always a plus for me), the USB C Connector seems like it was an afterthought (in fact, there is a cover on the back where you can see that it originally had an opening for 2 AAA batteries, but a lithium battery has been glued into it). The USB C port is accessed UNDER the top dust cover, and on my device, is slightly offset behind the opening, requiring you to insert the USB C connector at a slight angle just to get it in. Also, requiring that you leave the top cover open while charging invites dust to get into the laser ports, potentially interfering with proper measuring later. Additionally, after plugging the unit in for 48 hours, the battery level still does show full. For me, the charging port being inside the dust cover means that I can only charge this in a place where there is little dust (hard to find on a job site), and makes me very concerned about the long-term trustworthiness of this meter. All in all, if you are not looking to use this daily as a professional, it is probably a good value for occasional use at this price point. The build quality is decent overall, and it seems like it will likely hold up to a few bumps and bangs in a tool bag. But if you are looking for a meter to use day in and day out, I would suggest spending a little more and getting better quality than what this one offers. I will keep it on hand as a spare, but couldn't see making it a primary "daily driver".

Visual fault finder and pair tester in one. Excellent value for a tool that does multiple jobs. Perfect for a backpack or any lightweight IT persons travel bag. I have no way to test the light meter’s accuracy however it can definitely give you a good idea when comparing strands. The screen is nice, clear and bright. The laser is excellent. You can’t beat the price of this product for everything it offers in such a compact tool.

This is a handy little optical test set. When I say little, I mean _small_. I didn't expect it to be this small. But honestly, that's okay... the size makes it that much easier to carry along every day. It has a built in rechargeable battery, and charges from USB C 5V power. The laser power output is pretty high; perhaps 10 or 30mW? I don't have any calibrated sources to verify the accuracy or precision, but it seems to be good for relative measurements from some baseline testing I did. (I would not expect such a low cost item to be accurate - just sayin'.) The housing is similar to a small DMM, and has similar ruggedness. There is a flip down cover over the optics end, and a removable combination cover/plug for an RJ-45 wiremapper.Overall, this is a handy, cheap tool to have around. For higher accuracy measurements, expect to pay hundreds of dollars for a brand name device. This does the job it's designed for, which is basic testing and troubleshooting.

Tried this tool on a known condition 3m length of OM1 cable with ST connectors. The readings were not even close to what they should be at 850 and 1300nm. The socket did not fit the connectors very well and wiggled around. When moving the connector around in the socket the reading would vary between 5db and -6db, which is far too much of variance to have any sort of useful meaning. The light is bright enough, so at least you can use this to determine if your fiber has any continuity or not. The RJ45 tester works, so that's a positive. If you want something to tinker with, this may be up your alley. If you're looking for something that gives you useful meaning to the condition of your fiber, this tool won't help you much.

For around $30, this fiber optic tester does what it claims. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and has multiple functions that are handy for basic testing and troubleshooting. The readings aren’t as precise as professional-grade gear, but that’s expected at this price point. If you’re just getting started or need something budget-friendly for light use, this is a solid option.
