I used this baking mat 3 times and kept getting a strange after taste in my food: biscuits, cookies, etc. Finally realized it was the mat. I washed and rinsed it and used it per its instructions and the taste of silicone remained. I had to throw the food I made away.

The sprinkles theme is what sold me on this. We like GIR products and have had a couple of their scrapers already -- this set comes with two of them, and then the mat. The mat probably won't see much use -- seems a bit small for rolling out thing -- but the scrapers will.

Cute. I was surprised that the mat is soft and flexible, not hard or rigid. It’s not a bad thing, I just thought it was going to be a hard board. I love one piece silicone spatulas. These don’t disappoint.

I give this product 3 stars.It is way too expensive. Come on! It’s a little 11 inch silicone mat with permanent folds that smoked up my oven, setting off every smoke detector in my home. It was comparable to being in a loud, bad dream! My wife laughed at me when I told her they wanted $35 for this set.

I got to know GIR first from its silicone face masks, which I like a lot. Based on that experience, I wanted to try their silicone mat and spatulas. I’ve been using Silpat silicone mats for years, and I have a couple of other silicone spatulas, so I have a good basis for comparison.I was surprised that the GIR mat actually came folded. You can roll Sillpat mats, but you can’t fold them. The creases from the folds have stayed through several uses and the mat doesn’t lay completely flat. It will flatten out if you put something weighty enough on it, though. If I use it for cookies, it flattens fine. If I use it for french fries, it doesn’t completely flatten, but then that’s not a problem with french fries. When I’m done using the mat, I roll it up. Maybe over time the creases will go away.I was also surprised that the sprinkles on the GIR mat are actually bumpy, not flat on the mat. They’re small, so they won’t end up making much of a mark on the bottom of your cookies, though. You do feel the bumpiness against your spatula when you’re removing food from the mat.I like the spatulas. They have thick handles that are easy to grip. The paddles are nicely flexible, but firm enough. The larger spatula is comparable to the size of my other spatulas. The smaller one is quite small and handy for spreading frosting and scooping things out of jars.If I were deciding which silicone mat to buy, and I wasn’t set on having a mat that has a cute design, I’d pick a Silpat over this one, but I like this GIR mat well enough, and I like the spatulas a lot.
