The Gil Hibben Karambit is a beautifully made knife. I have been a collector for over 25 years so I know quality blades. It fits in my hand well in either the blade up (backwards) or blade down positions. Overall a great blade for my collection.

The only thing keeping me from giving a 5 star rating is the sheath. The sheath is well made, but not practical for a self defense device such as this. The other brand I found on Amazon with a versatile kydex sheath is much better for quick draw. I have extra large to double extra large hands and can hold the handle reasonably comfortably.

I like it. Nice as a display piece and good for a practicing beginner in a form of Silat. The only problem I had was the 2 points at the end could make it considered a prohibited weapon in Canada. I'm a chef and appreciate knives for what they are : tools and art. This could be very dangerous in the wrong hands and cause mayhem.

Kitchen steel, not quite perfect stainless (less chromium), which makes it more malleable... in the case of this, a control knife, that is a desirable metal alloy mixture. The blade itself is balanced well, though the black micarta handle weighs it toward that end. The micarta is a clear coat, so the black linen pattern shines through, which is quite nice.Decent cured leather sheath too, though the snap to hold it is soft, thin, and smaller than a man would hope for, it'll hold and do the job until it gets in a pinch or has to be really snagged at in a serious situation and will likely tear off.

Ziemlich Groß und sehr unhandlich, eher eine Deko Waffe meiner Meinung nach .Der Versand war Top und ging sehr schnell , hätte mich mehr mit dem Messer vor dem Kauf beschäftigen müssen ...

This is a whole lot of fun! It's also really sharp and dangerous. Being that I am a giant kid in a 52 year old body, I had to start trying tricks with it right out of the box. I cut myself 3 times in 2 minutes. I just thought about doing a flip trick with it and again, cut myself. Well balanced and fits nicely in my hand. Beautiful craftsmanship. I would highly recommend this to any Giant Kid like myself who wants a really NEATO knife.

I would go so far to say that no serious knife collection is anywhere near complete without Gil Hibben being well represented in it. Famous for his throwing knives and 'fantasy' blades; Mr. Hibben knows a thing or three about the visceral appeal of knives. If your collection is lacking Gil Hibben representation this high polish karambit would make an excellent addition, especially at the modest asking price. I've seen less attractive karambits for twice the price without the name recognition. The karambit is a very old weapon originating in Indonesia. It is yet another example of a farming tool being reinvented as a personal defense weapon. The curved 'hawksbill' blade design was inspired by how the big cats use their claws, and designed to be used in personal defense. The unique blade design lends itself to some very innovative styles of fighting not easily replicated with traditional blades. One such technique called "defang the snake" teaches the philosophy of using the karambit to swiftly poke and slash an opponents arms and legs, rendering him unable to continue fighting, but alive. This Hibben karambit fits absolutely perfectly in the hand when using the traditional grip of forefinger through the ring. In addition to unparalleled retention of your knife in a fight; the ring on the end is also used as a force impact weapon for striking the solar plexus, and skull. The addition of the horns on this karambit is a particularly nasty way of making your point without lethality. Karambit fighting philosophy states that your enemy should feel your blade, not see it; and while I agree with the premise I must say that this is a very visually appealing knife which an opponent may experience as intimidation. The black linen micarta handles are both attractive and functional as they fill the hand quite perfectly. The fit and finish of this knife are just exceptional, the craftsmanship is most impressive. The quality sheath is as unique as the knife it holds and when worn may well resemble a pistol more than a knife. Six rivets are used to reinforce the stitching but they should have used seven. The one they forgot seems rather important but perhaps I'm just nitpicking. The sheath is also 'branded' with Hibben's leather tattoo confirming it is part of his custom design series. It's a nice enough knife to have serial numbers, which I think would have been worth the increase in price. This is not only a knife you are going to want in your collection, it's one you may even want to display because this baby is way too sweet to be in with your 'general population' knives.

For the price this knife is a no brainer. Been a fan of Karambits for a while and I have 3 Cold Steel versions but I wanted something that looked scarier. This is a beautiful scary looking knife that was a lot better than I expected for the price. Feels very good in your hand and has good ergonomics. It is definetly a heavier blade and has more meat on the handle and blade than most Karambits. It is very sharp at the point and pretty sharp along it's blade. This is not because they didn't sharpen it, it is just that the blade is a thick metal so this is probably as sharp as you can get it. I have a medium large hand and the knife fits perfectly although I prefer my handles to be a little larger. Overall though, this is an excellent knife and the price is incredible. I would compare this with the Cold Steel Tiger Claw which costs $100, and while that knife is better overall, this knife is much better looking and has excellent function. If you are a fan of these knives, you need this in your collection.
