A great tube mic pre-amp with EQ and compression - especially the compression (and limiting). Can be clean to distorted. The included tube is noisy - need to upgrade that, but you can perhaps add a 12AT7 or -AX7 if you want some real growl. One thing I found is that this preamp is out of phase with all my other pre-amps - just hit the phase switch to bring it into line, but the moral is to ALWAYS check phase relationships of all components in your recording chain (I also have Mics that are different phase). Also not the quietest because of being tube (ribbon mics show that most). Liked this so much I bought another though...

First of all I will start buy saying that I am not a fan of any DBX products PERIOD! I previously read a few good reviews about it online but it's not a popular pieces of equipment. I hooked this thing up and OMG it made my vocals sound ultra crisp(I have the Blue Kiwi Microphone which I highly recommend with it). What's better is that if you desire more saturation on your voice, you can adjust the attenuation to give it a different sound giving it more flexibility. With the Preamp, EQ, Compressor and limiter, This is all you will ever need in one package hands down!
