Very nice printer. My wife will be using it for cake decoration printing with edible ink

From the pictures, it appeared that this Canon model used the same ink cartridges as my older model, but sadly this was not the case. An excellent printer, but as I should have known, no two models use the same carts and with over $300 invested in ink for the older model, the same model is no longer available. This is a flaw in the industry, not the printer itself, which is more than satisfactory.

I purchased this printer as a replacement for my Epson Artisan that was worn out..I read hundreds of reviews and finally decided to purchase the Canon PIXMA MG5520. Honestly my biggest reservation was that it was so inexpensive I was unsure as to what quality it would be. I was pleasantly surprised by its quality as I took it from the box.I am not a tech guru so I was not looking forward to the install process but I just simply read the directions and the wireless install worked very smoothly and i was printing and scanning in approximately 30 minutes of which most was reading the directions several times. My wife wanted to be able to print from her pad and phone as well as her personal computer and our main computer. In addition to that I wanted to be able to print from my hobby computer in my shop as well as my phone and another tablet that I use with my hobby. So I had to download iphone apps as well as android apps and install on 3 other computers. I was shocked by the fact that all of them installed so easy and were working properly on the first try..We have used it daily for about 45 days now and not needed to replace ink units yet. The seem like a good sign.So far I am very happy with the purchase especially since the unit was less than $100 and I just didn't think a unit for that price would be so functional. Color printing and photo printing is excellent and seems as good or better than my older unit that was 3 times the cost.Over all my initial experience has been exceptional. We shall see how it endures for a year or two.

I like this printer so far. Had it a few months. It has quite a few interesting features that are listed. Unfortunately it is not a touch-screen as advertised but that's not a huge issue for me.Set up:Setting up to wi-fi was a little tricky but that was mostly due to the location of the router in my house! When you plan setting this thing up, bring the printer and your main computer to be right next to the router. It will make life easier.Paper Input & Troubleshooting:It's very picky about the paper input but it's also very good at explaining what needs to be done. Very few printers actually say what the issue is but this one often has instructions and diagrams on the screen to show what troubleshooting steps need to be taken.Durability:I had a Canon Pixma printer before that was very similar in design, just with less features, and it lasted for many years. It's still chugging along 5 or 6 years later although the scanner is finicky now. The true test of this durability is the fact that it was dragged with back and forth from college many times and I admit it was not treated like the fragile device it truly is. Let's see if this new one can last just as long! It's already survived once less-than-perfect traveling experience.EDIT: Over a year later and this little guy is still printing like a champ. Between an English-teaching major and an Engineering student, it gets a daily workout of printing close to a hundred papers a week during the school year. It's traveled with me back and forth to college while being shoved in a trunk and lived in rough conditions. It's durable and reliable. The ink isn't super expensive either. There are several good sellers on Amazon that have large quantities of ink to buy for super cheaper that all work great.Ink:I haven't used it a whole lot yet so I'm not sure on ink consumption. My previous one was decent about it. I don't normally print photos on my printers since it's cheaper to order them online than order ink. There are settings you can change and customize regarding ink which is very helpful and can help extend the life of cartridges.EDIT: Over a year later: It does very well with ink consumption. I don't use it for actual photos on photo paper though. That will end up costing way more than ordering them off Shutterfly, Snapfish, or Photobucket (especially if you wait for the 101 free print deals). But for documents, graphs, and basic pictures, it works great. Even low quality pictures still look good.Features:No touch screen, very detailed troubleshooting help, many options regarding wi-fi such as printing from the cloud or sending stuff from Dropbox, cool little app for any mobile device that allows you to print from the device. There are many different settings and other options on the printer that I haven't had time to explore. Scanner works well and has included software that is pretty helpful if you like help to keep all scanned things organized. I haven't used the software much but it seems pretty nice if you don't already have a process for scanned items.EDIT: I do usually run into issues with scanning since it can get confusing. I don't really like printer/scanner software but it's not too bad for this one. Just make sure the first time you do it, you have some time to work through the issues. After the first time it should be real easy and ready to go for any future scans/printing.

Love, love, love it! First of all, I waited a while to write a review so I could get a good feel for how this printer is going to perform. I researched many printers before buying and was hopeful this would be just what I needed. I was really hating the Epson that I had and when it refused to scan just because I was out of ink, I gave it the boot. After receiving this and setting up, I really like the size and it seems to be well made. Also, the print quality is way better than anything I ever got out of the epson. My main concern was ink. I do not like having to purchase ink constantly so I was looking for something that would not bleed me dry. I know that the ink that comes initially with the printer usually does not last that long so I was not expecting to have to wait long before changing it out. I bought replacement cartridges up front so I would have them on hand. Well I have just now after several months had to change out my black for the first time! The color is still going. I couldn't believe it. I don't print tons of stuff but I do homeschool so I do a moderate amount of printing. I have printed photos, worksheets, etc, and still have been using those same cartridges that came with the printer. THat was a big plus for me! Also, my old printer would give me the low ink warning and then not let me print any longer. This printer has been warning me that it was low but I kept printing and it just kept going, without losing print quality. Another plus becuase I feel I am actually getting all the ink I paid for and able to use it. Well, I have not had the opportunity to see if it will let me scan even with the ink empty but I will update when that opportunity comes. I am so pleased with it and will never buy another epson. Canon will be my choice as long as they continue to make quality products like this.
