Several of us fly para motors in use this trail tech tachometer on our machines to monitor engine speed.We cannot find an installation method that reliably and consistently provides RPM for the motor.With the motor idling, the trail tech will report 3700 RPM. If I reach over and squeeze the wire tightly around the spark plug wire the RPM reading will decrease to 2450 or something similar.My Meter is installed precisely as described by trail tech, I wrap it with electrical tape on top of that and then I zip tied on top of the electrical tape to ensure a tight connection, but it still doesn’t reliably report RPM.

The sensing wire capacitively couples to the spark plug wire. The best way to achieve this is to wrap the sensing wire around the spark plug wire with bout 1/8" spacing between turns. If you wind too much the reading will be erratic, too little and it will read zero.
