Our Family recently Upgraded our Internet Service to Optical Fiber which has a Symmetric Download/Upload Speed of 300 Mbps. My PC had a USB Wi-Fi Adapter that was designed for lower speeds. Our Installer suggested I could get the Best Network Speed for my 8 year old PC by getting a USB Ethernet Adapter which would be Hard-Wired to the Router which was Installed 20 feet away. After acquiring a Discount Adapter which wouldn't stay connected to our Network for more than an hour at a time, I did some more research on Amazon.com and discovered the StarTech Adapter. I ordered it and it arrived Promptly in two days in perfect condition. I Installed the Manufacturer's Drivers which Windows 10 Pro automatically updated to the most recent Windows 10 Pro drivers for this device. I plugged it in to an open USB 2.0 port and it was recognized Immediately by the Device Manager in the OS. A quick check showed the adapter was operating Perfectly. Then I plugged the CAT 7 Ethernet Cable from our Router into the Adapter, and it Self-Configured a Network Connection to the Router within 15 seconds. I Immediately had a Gigabit Speed connection with the Router. USB 2.0 is limited to a Network Speed of 480 Mbps, so I performed a Network Speed Test with my OOKLA Software I acquired for Free from the Microsoft Store. It showed a Download Speed of 310 Mbps and an Upload Speed of 285 Mbps. Our Installer had cautioned me previously that since I had all of my USB ports filled, I might not get the full 300 Mbps speed symmetrically. Nevertheless I was Delighted with the Performance and Ease of Use that the StarTech Adapter Provided. With a Two Year Warranty and Lifetime Technical Support (should I ever need it) I believe the StarTech Adapter is a High-Performance Bargain for older PCs which are limited to USB 2.0 availability. This Adapter has proven to be my Best Find Yet at Amazon.com!

This item seems to have solved my internet connectivity problem. My many year old Gateway laptop had the ethernet port destroyed during a thunderstorm. Then, the wireless adapter stopped functioning. This item allows me to plug an ethernet cable into a USB port and so far, it works perfectly. Only reason not a five star is a somewhat slow connection but that may not even be related to this product. Speed is fine for what I need and it seems to be a stable connection. And, the price is right.

Finally I have found a product that does what it says it will do. I have tried many wifi adapters to test my high speed internet I just got. I wanted to prove the 150Mbits that they said. This device did the test and more no driver needed for window 10 I just plugged it in and away I went. I also tested this on window 7 and the drive worked fine off thee disk.So for anyone who says the device does not give high speed test it on a pc with a high processor speed. I tried it on an old hardware pc and it could only do 72Mbit and that was the same as my Ethernet port. So make sure the processor speed is fast.I would recommend this to every one. I should say I paid full price and this is my own feeling on the product. I will attache my test images.

This does not work with a 2013 Macbook Pro running OSX El Capitan 10.11.4. The *.kext driver references the wrong Product and Vendor IDs. I looked up the chipset manufacturer, but they have only updated support to 10.10 as of February 2016, and my attempt to manually correct it required me to disable my System Integrity Protection from the recovery terminal. At that point, the device was recognized, but it locked up my computer and the adapter became really hot.I could not get this to work

This was the third adapter I purchased. First was the TechToo, which came with a faulty disc so I couldn't install the drivers ( downloading them wasn't an option because my internal ethernet adapter was fried, which is why I needed a new one.) Next I tried Ably which came with a disc written in Chinese code, which obviously my computer couldn't understand and hence couldn't install the driver. (NOTE: Amazon is awesome, I sent both adapters back hassle-free.) I figured I'd give it one more try and bought the Star Tech and lo and behold, the disc worked, the drivers loaded and I was in business in five minutes. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit so the drivers were not part of the OS like they are with Windows 8. Very satisfied with this product AND with Amazon.

Price is right, and the installation is very simple if you know what you are doing with USB and Ethernet. I had several of them installed and working in a matter of minutes. The flexible cable of course makes it easier to attach to closely adjacent USB ports. It is easy to install and just works, and for a device like this there is not much more to say.

As long as you remember that USB 2.0 has a built in theoretical limit of 480Mbps and a real world experience in the 300's and your computer isn't loaded up with other USB devices, the adapter will provide a cost effective boost over an external 10/100 adapter and slightly more than a 10/100 that is built in on the mother board or system bus. The StarTech is easy to setup and once the drivers are installed, pure plug and play as the device settings are set for best throughput as a default. Nice product

I followed the instructions but it only works with some websites and not others as another reviewer also pointed out. Skype and Live Mail did not work and neither did Amazon but I was able to download a 200MB program and the the transfer speed was very good. I was able to access Google but not Bing. Other computers on the network didn't have any problems. I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the manufacturer but it did not solve the problem. Switched the adapter to another computer after disabling its (working) network adapter and had the same problems. First time I had to return an item to Amazon...

This is a great adapater, the only one that I have found that will allow PXE booting of an UltraBook (Dell XPS13) to a network. This is incredibly useful if you need to deploy and image to a machine over a network. Please note - to be able to do this your computer's BIOS must support the adapter, I have tried and tested this on a Dell XPS13 with the latest BIOS installed.Only gripe I have is that it's USB 2.0 so you will not get true Gigabit speeds due to the limitations of USB 2.0. But it works well otherwise and is quicker than 10/100.
