Very stable connection from Basement to my Asus AC3200 router on main floor. Can easily stream large video files without stuttering. Very happy with the adapter. Plug and play installation by Windows 10. No need to install drivers manually. You can get the maximum benefit only if you have an AC router but it's backwards compatible to G and N as well.

While I have not run benchmarks for this adapter, it's clearly a faster user experience. This review is for the Windows 7 and Windows 10 O/S only. I am using it with a Linksys WRT1900AC router and an ASUS M5A97 motherboard.Pros- Tech support (via email) was quite good and patient.- Feels like good build quality, although I do not have experience using it in a situation where it is physically removed and reinstalled frequently.- Blazing fast speed.- Never drops a connection, rock solid performance.- Quick delivery.- Working just fine after six months- Survived the forced upgrade to Windows 10 without a blink.Cons- Somewhat thick, if plugged into a USB 3.0 port with another adjacent port, only a smaller USB plug will fit into that adjacent port- I made the mistake of downloading the most recent driver rather than using the one supplied, which is usually the best bet, but this disabled it completely. I finally de-installed the driver, re-ran the supplied CD, then when I plugged the adapter in it worked fine.- Sometimes takes a while to re-establish connectivity after waking the PC from sleep mode.- When it does re-connect, it burps out a message "We are doing a check or switch USB mode action, Provide better performance." Little to find on the internet, except that this might mean it is downgrading the adapter port speed to USB 2.0. Still investigating.- The Windows 10 driver is incorporated into the O/S.Overall, I would recommend this adapter for anyone looking for a great 802.11AC adapter. My experience has been good.

Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews anywhere this thing is honestly one of the fastest adapters out right now.Let me first say I had a really hard time getting this thing to work how I wanted it to. Partly because I didn't contact Edimax customer service sooner, and partly because I have had no prior wireless networking experience and was just messing around with settings. If you are having problems, send them a detailed e-mail and if it is Mon-Fri they will contact you quickly (normally within an hour in my experience) and give you a detailed response on how to fix it.I have this running on Windows 7 64 bit OS and I have a Gigabyte UD3 990FXA motherboard. Paired with my new ASUS AC56U router I am getting solid 867 MBPS connection. This adapter really is amazing.I really wanted to pound this thing so (IF WE WANTED TO) we could play a movie over 4G or a WIFI hot spot through plex if someone was traveling while my wife and daughter could stream movies, download stuff, play games, basically do whatever they felt like on or from the computer without it effecting the highest quality connection. So this is what we did to test it out after I tweaked all my router settings and yes I spent a while getting this right but it is totally worth it in the end:- Streaming a movie locally from my desktop to the xbox 360- Streaming a movie through my plex media server on the roku 3(located upstairs where we currently had 2 bars we now have full wifi),- Streaming a movie to my droid razer m remotely through 4g through plex media server(settings were at 3mbps720p)- downloading torrents- played a game of League of Legends and a couple rounds of counter-strike global offensiveALL THIS WAS DONE SIMULTANEOUSLY AND NOT ONE BIT OF LAG ON ANY DEVICE! My ping on Counter-strike was around 50 and my ping on LOL was 80-85 which is normal for my ISP.I had my wife check out the streaming quality on the xbox and the roku (both had settings set to 20MBPS 1080p which is the max setting for plex) and I had my phone streaming by my computer desk and we did not see one single bit of lag or buffer anywhere for about an hour. I didn't see a need to test it further since it worked for an hour of reliable play.Obviously it is going to be a very rare occasion where we are streaming to so many devices at once but for the household who has older kids this is probably the norm for you. I just want everyone to know this adapter is more than capable of providing constant, reliable connectivity when configured properly and paired with a good ac router.I have it connected to my USB 3.0 port and have no problems disconnecting whatsoever. It gave me tons of problems even the blue screen of death when I didn't have the drivers properly installed. To help others who are having issues with the driver/general setup:-Download the latest driver from their website [...]-Install the driver *MAKE SURE YOU SELECT 32/64 bit correctly depending on what OS you have installed.-**** THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP.**************** Uninstall the AC1200 Wireless LAN from control panel -> programs and features after you install the driver. This program causes nothing but problems and was it was instructed to be removed by the edimax costumer support. Made all the difference.Settings on the wireless adapter-start-->devices-->right click on wireless nic-->properties--> i cant remember which tab has this but click change settings-Change wifi mode from auto to AC only-leave performance-change qos to enabled or disabled depending if you are running qos-disable everything else(until the driver gets updated I feel that the beamforming from the adapter isnt talking correctly to my asus router and causes lag)Restart your computer and you should be enjoying 867MBPS just waiting to be distributed throughout your home for limitless entertainment :)Hope this helps some.Alex

Nothing like a unit being bad right out of the box. Too bad I have to waste the time to send it back to get an exchange or a refund.I bought this device as a replacement for my faltering ASUS AC network adapter (Still in warranty) so I would have a connection while it is being serviced. So much for that. Looks like I will have to dig out my old N adapter in storage so I have a connection while the Edimax one is being returned and my ASUS one is being serviced.Running Win 8.1. When installing I followed the directions on the Edimax web site. With Win 8.1 the user should not install the drivers that came with the device (disc) or the Edimax web site. If you have, you will need to remove the adapter and uninstall the Edimax driver. Once that is done, all you are supposed to do is plug the adapter in and use the included drivers included with Win 8.1. That is it.I'm not expecting to get the theoretical speeds so when it was connected to my router briefly, It achieved a connection speed of anywhere between 192.5 - 295 Mbps with a max signal connection. Good speed being my router is approx 25 feet away and through a couple of walls. Compared to my ASUS USB2 AC network adapter that usually only sustains 58.5 Mbps max.The brief time the adapter did stay connected (around 15 minutes at the max) it seemed like I was on a dial up connection. The GMail login page took at least a minute to fully load up. Other pages... forget it. I tried Amazon, facebook and a few other web pages. While they eventually did load, it seemed like an eternity. My NNTP connection suffered as well. I pay for a 25Mbps connection and the Edimax network adapter only maintained around 9 - 10 Mbps with a brief max of around 15Mbps. The ASUS adapter sustained right around the Max of 25Mbps consistently. Other than that 15 minutes, this adapter continually dropped the connection and I would either have to use the Windows troubleshooter to reconnect or I would have to disconnect and reconnect the adapter frequently. Good thing I have not returned my ASUS adapter for service yet or I would not have been able to write this review. The ASUS is experiencing disconnection issues too. Not nearly as frequent as the Edimax one.I will be happy to adjust my rating should the replacement one be a "good one".
