I bought this device for a mini PC that will run mostly headless but also occasionally with a monitor attached so I needed a dummy HDMI plug that also allowed video output. This device allowed me to remotely connect to the mini PC without a monitor attached, but I wasn't able to get any video output once I connected an HDMI cable to the output of device and connected the other end of the cable to a monitor. Without this product, I was able to get a video output if I directly connected the monitor to the mini pc. The same thing happened when I tried again on my main PC - this device just would not allow a pass-through signal.I wanted to give this zero stars because I bought this product mainly for its passthrough feature but I suppose it deserves a single star because it still functions as a dummy HDMI monitor but at 3.6 times the price.

Laptop to a splitter to 2 TVs and a Hollyland Mars 400S (wireless HDMI). The Hollyland didn't like that the laptop was seeing the TV EDID. One of these units before the splitter fixed the EDID issue which made all the devices happy.

If you experience a no passthrough, black screen. Remote connect to your device and check your video settings! Read On.I have a 4-port KVM with dual HDMI. I run a mixture of Windows and Linux systems (Mint, Ubuntu). When switching my Windows computers. They sync up quickly, about a second. The Linux systems are a different story. The displays black out for about 10 seconds, per screen. I’ve been trying to fix this in software with no luck. A hardware solution seems easer. I hoped these EDID passthroughs would solve my problems, and it did. However! When I first connected the passthroughs. All I saw was black screens with an occasional flicker. Like it was trying to sync but couldn’t do it. When I remote connected. I found out why. The OS detected the passthrough as a 4K compatible display. Then the OS bumped my resolution up to 4K. Thanks Linux! Unfortunately, my displays are 2K. Once I checked the resolution back to 2560x1440. All works as expected.Additionally, the description says no DP->HDMI adapter support. Maybe they are referring to passive adapters. I am using an 4K active DisplayPort to HDMI 1.4 adapter. The passthrough is working great.

BACKSTORY: I have an interesting dual monitor setup. One has adaptive sync and one is an old laptop screen wired up with a board that allows me to use it as a desktop monitor. If I plug both into my Nvidia GPU, whenever there is anything moving on the second screen (even the little flashing orange taskbar notification of an app that needs attention), my adaptive sync screen loses a ton of frames. The solution was to plug my secondary into my iGPU, which worked except that apparently this board will constantly disconnect and reconnect when it's "sleeping", causing all my windows to be moved and resized upon waking. This apparently wasn't an issue when my secondary was plugged into my GPU, as Nvidia remembers and stores the EDID information of screens. When I upgraded to an adaptive sync monitor and had to move my secondary to the iGPU, this problem became apparent.Enter this EDID emulator. I am writing this within minutes of receiving it (May 2020), so it is a very initial review with no regard to longevity, however, it works flawlessly. I have my second monitor in a portrait configuration, and this little device has no problem with that. When the screen goes to sleep, my windows stay exactly where they are. This is exactly what I needed. If there are no further updates to this review, then it is safe to assume it is still working as expected and advertised.

I couldn't do 4K60 which was disappointing, but this is still a really good device and essential in my setup.

This is not by any means the fault of the product. This product may work for other cases. I have a non 4K Samsung TV. Because the TV only has two speakers my Comcast cable box will only send stereo into the TV (despite me having Dolby 5.1 using the Sonos Play Bar. And I know the TV will properly pass Dolby back because it does it for my Apple TV). Anyways was hoping this product would force the Comcast box to pass Dolby to the TV, but I think the fact it emulates a 4K TV, the TV couldn't handle the video signal (again, I can only assume this..) video would come through on the cable box boot up screens but once it was supposed to be showing Cabke TV stations, it was just a black screen.Again, I don't fault the product and I am not going to ask for a refund, but thought that this warning should be put out there.

This item either doesn't work, is defective or sold to be a decorative piece...This in NO way emulates EDID in any manner I have tried. I have a special board that detects the presence of both HDMI inputs and outputs. using this device has zero results. If I unplug something my deice still reports loss of activity.I had hoped that using it on a HDMI switch would help maintain sink but this device does not even function in that way.It does nothing with the exception of being a decorative passthrough. What is worse is that I never got a "return" button in my order history. Stuck with this junk. I want a refund.

We used this to solve a "loss of sync" issue with multiple HDMI displays. We have a computer that drives 4 separate outputs. 2 of the outputs are HDMI and would lose sync whenever we powered on or off the TVs plugged into them. With these adapters, we have no more sync issues. Also, one of the displays was plugged into a full size DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and this adapter works flawlessly. This is despite the description staring that it does not work with "DisplayPort" adapters. Our adapter is a full size (not mini) Active adapter, if that makes a difference. We do not run audio to any of the TVs in this setup, so for us, the concerns about being limited to 2 channel audio are not applicable. If you have a multimedia setup that requires keeping HDMI displays in "sync" all the time, this is a great option. No more desktop re-arranging each time you power on or off a TV.For others who may end up here with our specific use case:We use these adapters on a Multi-Media Windows computer running "Pro Presenter". The HDMI displays are connected via Monoprice HDMI to Cat5e adapters. This whole setup, with FUERAN HDMI adapters has been rock solid for several months.Prior to adding the adapters we consistently had sync issues with the displays. The display assignments would re-arrange on TV power on/off and also the refresh rate would change from 59/60hz to 61hz and cause display instability.
