This was a terrible disappointment. The software never loaded properly and many hands tried to get it working, even the most e-savvy members of the family... I was so happy..it was going to solve all my receipt storage issues and it was just junk. And to add insult to injury I kept getting emails from The Neat Company pimping their other products till I blocked them. Just trash. Don't go there.

I purchased this product for MAC. I experienced every issue that is posted. Device does not always grab paper for feeding - its finicky. Multiple error readings require compute restart and then issue resolves. Scanner reads some of the data - requires user to manually add data. The entry sheet is easy to navigate so it is easy to enter the data manually but you shouldn't have to do it. I do like the idea that the receipt is photographed and held with the receipt data. I feel that most of the issues are mostly due to the fact that it was developed for a PC and then MAC. MAC users would understand this phenomenon. I will continue to enter the data but it is frustrating. What else can I do - I already purchased the item! I also purchased the neoprene case - works well, snug, good for packing in your bag. Cord does not fit in pouch must be stored separately.

This is not the top of the line, high end, high performance piece. It is a lightweight, compact unit that efficiently scans up to an 8.5x11 sheet. If you need something more, than perhaps review your needs, before you buy. I had one of these for a few years, it had been knocked around as we moved cross country and back and it finally quit. I bought another one! Like I said, for the money ya can't beat it. The Neat software is user friendly. It is not very fast, so if you have many documents to scan on a consistent basis, you may want to look into another product. It will take maybe 5 min to scan in 10 pages. For my application that is ok, you may need something faster. It would take quite a bit of time to scan in many pages with this unit. I use this little scanner to get documents into my computer and then email the docs or file them. No need to keep a fax or internet fax, i scan and use email. This one does the job just fine. I have had flatbed scanners, all in one print-scan-fax, and this one does just a good as the expensive models, although slower. One drawback is that that is does not handle legal size documents. Only up to 11 inch long. So that may be an issue if you have the need to scan legal size. Otherwise, if your need is to scan into your computer a document 8.5"x11in or less, are not in a tremendous hurry, and file the doc or email, message, print, or whatever, you should be very happy with it.

I bought this scanner because of the size and the claim it is a mobile product. The size is indeed nice and it is light to carry. The software offers nice features for the less organized amongst us. In short: the concept is sound. When I received it the scanner, I installed it but returned it immediately after testing it. The scans were all blurry and striped. I thought the product was malfunctioning and ordered a replacement. I installed it but got the same results. I contacted support and after a lot of calibration, cleaning and testing it worked decent. Unfortunately, every time after the Neat Mobile is disconnected or in my case, taken on trips, I have to go through a sequence of tests, calibration etc. It takes 15-30 minutes to get it working. A complete productivity drain. I guess people who buy this product have chosen to file their stuff electronically. They 'switched'. It is some work but it is very convenient to find documents and to get rid of the paper. I have done this for a couple of years now with a ScanSnap on my desk. Never had one issue. It produces good quality scans, and fast. Neat seems to have a good concept and they spend significant money on the promotion. A document flow concept is great to have but it starts with the creation of an electronic file. A working product is key in this process and to get users exited about the opportunity of creating electronic files. Unfortunately, the basic requirements are not met by this product. I hope they get it right because this is a missed opportunity.

I bought this to get myself organized. The software is great (once you figure out how to use it, which isn't easy). The scanner works well with heavy paper such as business cards and some checks, but is virtually impossible to use with thinner paper, especially letter size sheets. I have yet to get a single piece of paper to feed straight. No matter how meticulously I align the paper, the scanner will twist it and turn it so by the time it is half way through it is at a 30 degree angle. It comes out twisted and the resulting scan is distorted. It installs easily, but is impossible to use. About every third or fourth scan, it will no longer feed or if it does, the software will say that the scan cannot be completed even though the entire document has been fed through the scanner. The only solution I have found is to quit NeatWorks, unplug the scanner, plug it back in, and then restart NeatWorks. Then after three or four scans, repeat this process.Obviously the hardware has lots of bugs that the company needs to fix. The concept is great, and I had high hopes for it, but clearly it is going to require way too much work to scan most documents. Instead of being a time saver, it has become a time waster.

I had very high hopes for NeatReceipts for Mac, maybe too high. I'm gong to keep it because it does a decent job of its basic task: scanning and analyzing cash register receipts. However, I found the database software to be counter-intuitive, inflexible, and poorly supported.I suppose if you were just starting out organizing your paper records and using software like Quicken to manage your finances, you might be able to do things in a way that would better integrate with Neatworks. The lack of flexibility in Neatworks seriously detracts from the program's usefulness for those of us who have been working on going paperless for a while. To do efficient data entry and export to Quicken, I need to be able to add add and remove fields from forms to match my accounts and categories in Quicken and to be able to clearly see what data is being exported. As it is now, using Neatworks to get data into Quicken is more work than just entering the data from the receipt directly into Quicken. In theory, you can add and remove fields, but this feature, as near as I can tell, does not work at all. As a result, the entry forms are cluttered with fields I will never, ever use but I am unable to add fields for items like shipping & handling that I use all the time.If you're just looking for easy-to-use hardware and fairly-easy-to-use software that will allow you to archive and dump your paper receipts, NeatReceipts for Mac does the job.If you're looking for something that will also streamline your bookkeeping, NeatReceipts for Mac is not there yet. With a little more work on the database side, however, it may get there someday soon.
