Very frustrating to install. It is by far the tightest fit I have ever installed. My outdoor speaker wire has four lead inside a black plastic shield. It is direct burial wire. I finally had to strip off about six inches of the black shielding to get it to fit inside the box. There was no way to get the actual volume control to fit inside the weatherproof box with the shieling on. I must say it is much nicer than the other brand. It sounds great and the weather proofing seem netter than the other brand. At $20.00 each this is a great bargain. It is 95 degrees here in Florida, When the weather cools down I will clean up my installation and more than likely hook some stripped wires to the terminal blocks and then run that out to the main feed.

I purchased this so I can either turn down the volume or turn off the volume on my deck. The screws inside to attach the speaker wires are very small. The unit seems to be made well and has some weight to it. However,It only takes a few clicks on the dial and I have no sound.It would have been better with a volume controller without the clicks.

Tried to use and adjust the jumpers for my speaker configuration, however, ended up bypassing it altogether. I had to wire my 4ohm outdoor speakers in series for my 8ohm amp. When also adjusting the jumpers for the speaker settings, whether I wired in parallel or series, the speakers really lacked volume. I finally ended up splicing the wires together in the volume housing and have the speakers wired in series at my amp. WHOA what a volume difference.I think this volume rocker was also putting more stress on the amp as it was starting to get very hot with almost any speaker config. Once I took the volume rocker out of play, my speakers rocked. Highly do not recommend.Also, the plastic screw holes inside break off easily.

The LHS speaker output is not working; I switched out wires from LHS to RHS and back again; the LHS output is muffled and barely audible.

I should listened to the reviews. This one was much cheaper than other volume controls. Other people complained about issues with volume levels being uneven between speakers. Also even when turned all the way off- can still hear sound in one speaker. Also, seems to make my amp run VERY hot. I will be returning it.

Purchased this to complete my outdoor system around my pool. after installation completion i powered everything up and it sounded terrible, i was getting a bunch of resistance noise at the volume controller. as i was ready to submit a claim to have my money refunded i went on the monoprice site to look at feedback and watched a video of an installation and realized i never changed the pins inside the unit to work with my setup. Once i did that it was perfect, the sound is perfect and love the fact i am able to adjust the volume from right outside my home!

Using this with a pair of 8ohm speakers, I am running it with only a 50W RMS Amp into 75W RMS capable speakers. Sounds the same as it did before installing the control, but now I can leave the Amplifier setup at about 3/4 volume and turn it on then go outside and turn up to where I want rather than going in and out until I have the level I want. Now if only I can find a better Amp, I bought it separate form the speakers for different things, they have just been re-purposed and sound good enough that I will only update they amp if I find a good deal.

This is a good product. It works as advertised. Be sure and check the dimensions - it's not a compact unit. But none of the outdoor speaker volume controls are any smaller. It feels sturdy and well built.The only problem I had was inserting the two innermost wires into the terminal blocks. You have to insert the wire and then screw it down in the terminal. The two innermost screws are difficult to get to. It's doable but awkward. I finally figured out that the green terminal blocks can be pulled out (they are just press-fitted in) and then I was able to insert the wires and plug the terminal blocks back in.I contacted Monoprice about a problem (my misunderstanding about how something worked). I used the chat line on their website. The response was prompt, friendly and (most important) accurate.

I mounted this outside on a 4x4 for two rock speakers to replace the 21-year old controller that had inferior waterproofing and rusted inside. I attached 2 feet or more of 1/2" electrical plastic conduit to the connection facing down and left the bottom open of the conduit open so that any possible water that gets in can get out. (I have heard of others using plastic rubber ear plugs to fill the gap and then silicone caulk). The speaker wire is direct burial speaker wire that has lasted 21 years with no degradation.It works, i did not do any sound tests.
