Very, very basic. I'm a corporate videographer looking to branch out into music videos and was hoping for a guide to shooting, with some helpful tips about workflow, style, and equipment. Instead I got some basic information about video and audio formats, uploading options, and other things that can EASILY be found on the Internet. This is definitely aimed at musicians and not videographers, but even for a musician, I can't recommend it. I'm sure being an artist you know at least one person who's handy with a video camera/DSLR. Pick their brain for a half hour and you'll get more valuable info than there is in this entire book.

Basic info, and details of how to process your visual materials. Not really worth the buy in my opinion bc there are much better options.

We, who are forced to read endless manuals, instructions, "read me"s and all the rest, get to utter that phrase infrequently these days. Safir's multifaceted background as a composer, recording engineer and music-industry journalist becomes apparent in this book which is as clear and thorough as its title.Many authors like to impress the reader with the depth of their personal knowledge. Safir realizes that readers of a "how-to" book are anxious "to" do something. This is not recreational reading - you have a music video to make and put online.The discussion of the subject is thorough but on a need-to-know basis. For example, rather than delving into the specific algorithms which make up various compression formulas, he gives us the advantages and disadvantages of various compression systems and bottom-lines the topic.If you want or need more information on a given topic you are often directed to a particular web address or given search criteria to enter into Google.This book will not only teach you how to make a music video and put it online, it will make you feel smart. It will allow you to say "I get it!"

Safir's "Make Your Music Video and Put It Online" guides you through each crucial decision of recording the music and shooting the video, demystifying it with tech savvy, wisdom and humor. This is a timely and indispensable guide. I've been in the trenches on the music side for many years and after reading this book, realized how little I knew about creating videos; the technology, terminology, various approaches from low tech to high end and the pros and cons of each. Safir takes you through all the decisions. I realized the journey is lot easier to navigate than I'd imagined once he showed me how to avoid the potholes.
