I purchased 2 sets (4 speakers) of the Pioneer TS-A6885R 6"x8" 4-way speakers for my 1997 Ford F-150 Supercab because the stock speakers had begun to sound a bit shabby, and my daughter blew the right rear one completely. I had read some complaints from other buyers that these speakers don't have very good bass response, but I believed those people were trying to connect these to low-power OEM head units, which would likely not have enough oomph to make these thump. I have a Pioneer DEH-P6500 SuperTuner III-D head unit, which has a built-in 50W x 4 power amp and equalizers. After reading many reviews, I suspected my system had enough power to make these speakers sound good without having to buy an external power amp, and I am pleased to report that I was right. If you want serious chest-crushing, window rattling bass that makes the mirrors in the cars all around you shake, then you need to go get a big power amp with sub-woofers. But if you want strong, clear music in your car, then these speakers will work just fine. That doesn't mean these are "old-person" speakers, not at all. I like rock and roll music, and I like it loud. I also really like strong bass, and I was worried that these might be a little weak, but they thump as hard as I want them to. In fact, I had to back off the bass power on the equalizer because it was so strong it was covering up some of the mid- and high-range sound. I have listened to radio, CD, and Pandora through my iPhone, and the sound quality is excellent. I've cranked music like Rush, Kansas, Foreigner, Journey and AC-DC, as well as country music and mellow stuff too, and so far the sound quality is pretty much perfect. After I installed them (they were a perfect fit in my truck- no mods necessary), it took a few minutes of cranking the volume up to break the speakers in so their sound began to really open up. Once broken in, these speakers CRANK! They deliver powerful, crisp-sounding music, from crystal-clear high end sounds to hard-thumping bass with no distortion. My teenage daughter was yelling to me over the music from the passenger seat and I could barely hear her, if that helps you get a feel for the volume level and clarity of sound.I can see why so many of the reviews of these speakers are 5 stars... Once you hook them up in your F150, you'll wish you'd done it a lot sooner!

I will start by saying these poor reviews (besides the damaged speakers, wrong sizes or premature life) are not accurate! These speakers have a RMS of 60 watts. That means they will perform to their best ability unless you have AT LEAST 60 watts running to them. I am not trying to be an ass but come on!! DO NOT rate these speakers for poor performance when you are using a stock head unit or even an after market head unit with no amp! That is like saying in a review that a toaster is a piece of s*** because it wont toast your bread off a 9 volt battery! I have a 2007 F250 with a Pioneer AVHX2700BS head unit. I hooked up 4 of these speakers without an amp until I was able to find an amp suitable for my setup. They sounded OK. A tad better than stock. A little bass but not much. Then I found a 400 watt RMS amp and now have these speakers running on 100 watts RMS a piece at 2 ohms. THEY ARE AMAZING!!! They do not rattle your head by any means but you feel them hit. These are not top of the line, but they are VERY acceptable for the price and I guarantee you I am heard 1/2 mile or so away clearly and extremely loud. I can not turn these all the way up with out getting a headache. I have had no noticeable distortion what so ever. I wish they did have more bass but I am 100% satisfied and would recommend them to anyone. Rap sounds decent but you will have to adjust settings for some songs. Rock and country sound very nice with these speakers.

I've used/tried several brands of speakers over the past few decades, and Pioneer has always made "good" speakers, even in the economy-class price-ranges. The TS-A series are mid-line, and the TS-G series are true "economy" speakers (yet still sound quite good too). While these may not rival high-end, high-price speakers (Bose, JL Audio, Focal), they will hold their own against speakers twice their price (JBL, Alpine, Polk, Infinity, etc.).... AND, they sound MUCH better than similar priced units from Sony, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Pyle, and MTX.My only complaint with these speakers is the bass is a bit fuzzy below 250Hz, but the amp's crossover fixes that issue and directs the true, low-frequencies to the sub-woofers. Even if you're not using a crossover, the fuzzy sound is hardly noticeable unless you are an audiophile or listen to music that is "all thump".These speakers easily handle the full-range of sound, as well as remain sounding quite good when pushing 50W of power through them (and they will handle 65W RMS easily). Highs are crisp, mid/voice is clear, and lows are well defined. Depending on your mounting location, you may want to invest in a speaker baffle or sound-deadening material behind them if mounting in doors or kick-panels. It will reduce the vibration and re-verb dramatically.
