So, I had shoulder surgery from a major fall (and major damage) over a year ago. This has been a game changer for me. It's more effective than you'd think. For reference, I'm nearly 50 and had - prior to my fall - lifted weights for over 10 solid years. This has helped me get back in the game and also begin lifting more traditionally. I'm not even 80% of what I was yet, but this has been more effective for me than some of the more simple physical therapist recommended exercises. All that said, I can overdo it and I have (sooooore). This will really work your shoulders, forearms, and more. Lots of videos on Youtube to help (I can't compete with those so I won't try). If you're new, start with the smaller size, the 8 pounder. Prior to my fall I had no issue doing side raises, without cheating, with 25&30lb dumbbells. I could max with 35 or even 40 lb dumbbells - and the 8 lb unit is plenty for my current condition. This unit is well make and rotates nice and smooth. I highly recommend it - even if only to add to your options.

At first I wasn't sure about these because I'm a woman who has no interest in bulking up. I do want to tone my muscles, though, so I ordered the 8 lb., black set to give them a try. They glide smoothly without a hitch. I had no idea eight pounds could feel so heavy, but I think I just needed to get acclimated to them. They have a nice finish and offer a wide variety of workouts.I tried a few of the traditional exercises that I saw in the amazon videos, but ultimately, I've been using it as a weight to just do my normal routine. I really like it for that because it holds my arms in place at a set distance from one another.Balance is very important to me, so working both sides evenly with such ease is priceless. I've been using it for crunches, twists, side bends, and all the different arm exercises it was designed for. I read that it was for the wrists and forearms, I think, but it works every part of your body you engage in your workout.I'm really impressed with it and not at all worried about bulking up with such a small amount of weight. The grips are easy to hold, but I have had one issue with them. Sometimes my knuckles will bump the interior edge of the circle while I'm working out. It just requires a slight adjustment on either where I place my hands or to the movement. It seems to happen more when I use it as intended. I'm going to play with it and see if maybe it's something I'm doing wrong or just what happens when you start twisting and moving it quickly.I'd say the price is on par with any other fitness equipment on the market, and it's very good quality.

When I first saw this RiseSafoni forearm trainer in photos and videos, I thought there must be some tension built into the machine. Nope. The concept behind this forearm trainer is the same as in any weight lifting regime for strength training.I've seen this item called by many generic terms, including "forearm trainer." I'll go with that. This forearm trainer is heavy. I got the 12 pound version. Some of the recommended exercises are identical to what you would do with free weights (i.e., dumbbells). You hold the trainer level to your chest, and swing it toward and away from your chest. You can do the same with dumbbells. The selling point is that you can also spin its wheels. You hold it up, and spin. Holding 12 pounds up in the air, while you're spinning those wheels, takes a toll. You can do similar (but not identical) things with dumbbells. The advantage with this forearm trainer is that it compels you (to some extent) into maintaining proper form with your arms. And it's safer than dumbbells.I normally use 20 pound dumbbells, one in each hand. That's 40 pounds. This forearm trainer is only 12 pounds. Yet if I hold it up, and keep spinning its wheels, the workout is surprisingly effective. Instead of slowly lifting dumbbells, I'm quickly spinning wheels. Less weight, but more effort, because there's no relaxing when you lower the weights, and you're spinning quickly rather than lifting slowly. This forearm trainer is not as fun as it looks in the videos. It demands effort, which is as it should be -- "No pain, no gain."It comes without instructions, but there are instructional videos online.Included are some unimportant odds and ends (cloth rag, wrist wrappings, etc. -- see my photo). An effective addition to your workout regimen.

This thing is amazing. Such a simple device can give you such a great workout and a shoulder exercise with just doing it in short intervals. Definitely great if you want to take it traveling for a good workout for the upper body.
