About this item

  • [Multipurpose Use] - Solid stainless steel rods are widely used in cars, airplane models, model ships, and other DIY crafts, and are also suitable for connecting gear shafts, motor shafts, short support shafts, miniature shafts and hinges, pins, and other lathe processing, providing reliability and versatility
  • [Durable Stainless Steel] - 304 stainless steel has a smooth and flat surface, excellent corrosion resistance, good high-temperature resistance, high yield strength, and tensile strength, easy to form, process, and weld, and can make products of various complex shapes
  • [Size & Package] - The size of the stainless steel round rod is 0.04 x 3.93 inches/1 x 100mm (Dia x L). The package contains 2 stainless steel rods. The stainless steel rod is easy to cut, and you can cut it into any size you need as needed

These are 304 SS and are 10mm in diameter and a fraction shy of 300mm long.My main aim when reviewing stock/raw materials is to make sure the product matches the description. These do.If the price is good, these at least from my two samples look good too.

What could be wrong with steel? It's good stuff. Exactly as described. Be sure you understand the measurements you're getting

The two rods I ordered arrived wrapped with some clear plastic keeping them together and placed into a small grey mailing pouch, which did the job well enough. After unpacking them the most apparent thing was that the cuts on these aren’t done with any major care or precision as they’re not entirely straight and the burrs from the cut were left behind.I checked both rods with my callipers and they’re bang on at 10mm in diameter and they’re almost exactly 300mm from end to end, so they’re as advertised in both dimensions. Apart from the ends being a little askew and rough there isn’t anything to complain about with the rods, they’ve got a nice surface finish and they’ll be perfect for a range of projects after a quick bit of clean-up to remove the burrs. As usual, I don’t have an absolutely foolproof method of testing if they are made from 304 stainless steel, but all signs are pointing that being the case as they had no issues with a long soak in salty water and vinegar without any degradation or cosmetic changes. They’re also slightly magnetic, but that’s very common and expected for austenitic steels, which will form some martensite when cold-worked. That presence of martensite gives it a slight pull in the presence of a permanent magnet, but nothing that feels abnormal compared to other 304 and 316 stainless steel rods I've bought from various brands. As always with the M METERXITY product listings of various types and materials they’re relatively well priced for pre-cut lengths compared to some brands. The specific size I ordered (10mm by 300mm) isn’t available on this listing any more, but if they came back in stock and were priced competitively I’d have no problems recommending the rods.
