I can confirm what other reviewers have noted, which is that when you use this splitter+filter combo, you're going to significantly decrease your signal range and message count if you don't amplify the signal beforehand. You *need* some kind of amplification before the splitter because you will basically lose 6dB of gain on each side, which is about a quarter of the signal strength compared to the input side. In this review I've attached comparison photos of my setup of how it performs.Component wise this board uses:- Yantel PD0900U03-070 power splitter (which is actually being used outside its specifications)- TAI-SAW TA069A 978MHz SAW filter (5MHz bandwidth)- TAI-SAW TA1090EC 1090MHz SAW filter (30MHz bandwidth)One helpful review from outside the US provided the frequency graphs for each side of this splitter and they match up well to the components used here. There's no other product like this and I appreciate how compact it is because it worked well with one of my projects. This is one of the few passive 978MHz filters I can find online as well. Being able to split a single antenna like the to monitor both ADS-B and UAT is great because this allows you to compromise between the simplicity of only using a single antenna feed while still being able to monitor both frequencies. However, I do wish it came with some kind of metallic shielding with some kind of mounting holes so that this isn't floating out in space.I will reiterate: if you use an LNA before this, it is amazing for min-maxxing a single antenna feed.

Filter works good for 1090mhz and 978mhz but kills signal strength. You need a powered LNA to boost the signal sent to the filter. The Nooelec Lana powered by USB worked well for me. Messages per second went from 150 to 500+ on average and my range went from 100nm to 150+ once I got it wired correctly.

I can't find a combination SAW filter/amplifier specifically for 978 MHz that's got an affordable price tag so I'm using just the 978 MHz side of this filter in front of a wideband amplifier and its working pretty well so far. My UAT stats are matching and beating what everyone around me with UAT is getting on flightaware's stats page so I'm satisfied. I also really like how small it is, I was able to cram it and a LaNA into a single enclosure on my ADS-B antenna mast.

I live in an RF-dense area with hilly terrain. I was able to get my 1090/978 antenna up above my roofline with a LNA which significantly increased range but also interference. I had resolved the issue on 1090 using a 1090-only SAW filter, so I assumed this is what I needed since I was not seeing planes on 978 at distance/altitude where I could see similar planes on 1090. I also compared to ADSBx filtered to UAT/ADS-R in my area which made it obvious I was missing planes. I tinkered with the gain and was seeing anywhere from 6-12 UAT aircraft daily. Once I added this filter and zeroed in on the proper SDR gain, I am now seeing that many AT A TIME all day! It's over 10 miles to the nearest small airport with others at varying distances and directions. After replacing my 1090 SAW filter with this one, I am getting comparable results... if not slightly better!I highly recommend this product!!

Standard 6db loss, bi directional. bandwith is plenty and sharp for both filters. Will knock off around 40 db for out of band rf.Make a shielded containment for the board to minimize noise as usual.

I bought two of these for my two ADS-B installations that are about 250 miles apart. I used them to split the signal from a single antenna to feed two SDRs. At both installations I lost 50+ miles of range on the 1090 so I have removed these nifty little devices and will not be using them. Instead I will install a second antenna for 978 SDRs. Obviously, that is what I should have done in the first place.

I hooked this up several times with different SDRs including RTL-SDR, Nooelec NESDR Smart v5, and Nooelec SmartTee with and without Bias-T, I got very little to no reception on either UAT or ADS-B.

I analyzed the filter to check its performance and I am satisfied with the results.Due to the average insertion loss of ~6dB (meaning 1/4 the power makes it through) I would advise that a low-noise amplifier be added to your signal path ahead of the filter. Saying "978 MHz insertion loss (above 3 dB): 2.73 dB" really means that the true insertion loss is: 3 + 2.73 = 5.73dBThe filter shape for 978MHz is quite good, and you will see a 10dB reduction in unwanted signals from 967MHz to 986MHz with a steep roll-off afterwards. The 1090 MHz filter is quite a bit more broadband, and so the 10dB edge frequencies are: 1064MHz and 1115MHz.+------------------------+-----------+-------------+| Measurement | 978 MHz | 1090 MHz |+------------------------+-----------+-------------+| Insertion loss (dB) | -5.96 | -5.79 |+------------------------+-----------+-------------+| -3dB Filter BW (MHz) | 19.0 | 45.0 |+------------------------+-----------+-------------+

This works well, if it had a metal case it would get 5 stars.
