Excellent handheld. I've had this radio about a year now & it lives up to the advertised specs. When freshly charged, it produces a little over 10w on VHF & around 8.4w on UHF, with the SWR at around 1.01 for both bands (either when using a dummy load, or when live & cabled up to an external antenna). I also really like the high-contrast display, & the fact that you can display the frequency, channel name, & channel number all the same time if you like. I found that it's very easy to program using Chirp, but you can also use bluetooth via the Odmaster app. With the latter method, you don't need to use a programming cable. This radio looks & feels solidly-built, & is also well priced. The only thing I don't like about it is its slow scanning speed (it's maybe about the same scanning speed as a UV-5R) but, to me, this is minor. The TD-H8's a winner!

1st radio the battery would get hot on turning it on. Returned it and it was replaced. 2nd unit worked fine for a few months then it too would get hot like in hot I'm gonna explode. I took too long and now it's out of warranty. This is a dangerous item that can easily start a fire.

Outstanding value, well constructed, fits in the hand nicely. Wish it had Airbands, and a way to dim the display like the H-3, but overall great sound, easy setup. Bluetooth coms were faultless, and included apps worked on my computer and my iPhone.

I’ve had it for the last few months, and it’s amazing!Range - better than I expected! Could reach the repeaters that are further than me much better!Value for money - Most definitely! Even if they have deals on this or it may be the cheapest 10watt radio, this is the best choice.Sound quality - Much more clear then most if my other radios. I can hear people much clearly and the mic words just as well, people had no complaints yet so it’s a good indicator!Functionality - can be confusing at the start but once you get used to it, it’ll be a piece of cake! The functionality is pretty much similar if not the same as the TD-H3 so if you know how to use that radio, then you’ll basically be covered! The radio also has an alarm function.Durability - Amazing! Dropped it a few times and all that happened was a few scratches and that’s it. Radio still works perfect.Size - Slightly bigger then the TD-H3.

I ordered the H8 2nd generation. I got this radio for three main reasons, to have an analog radio with long battery life, able to obtain a list of nearby ham radio repeaters and easy programing, and a radio I can use without fear of damaging it (unexpensive).First I don't care about the advertised 10w. I know the real difference between 5w/10w on a handheld radio is how fast the battery drains. So I didn't measure the power output. Comparing the H8 with a Yaesu FT-5D and a Icom ID-52 the radio works well on transmission and reception. In reception is more sensitive and less noisy that my FT-5D and about the same as my ID-52 (the ID-52 has better reception that the FT-5D). In transmission (mid power setting) is about the same that the FT-5D, the ID-52 can reach repeaters that the other two radios can't. Overall the H8 is on par on transmission and reception (analog) with more expensive radios. The battery life is way longer that any of my other radios. We are talking about two days longer under same use, 4 to 6 hours at day in reception with dual watch and battery saver off and some occasional transmission. I can get about 4 days under the mentioned conditions.Programming ham radio repeaters is a pleasure using the phone app. You get a list with nearby repeaters based on your location. You only have to select the repeaters in the app and transfer them to the radio via Bluetooth. You can change the radio parameters using the phone app too. The web-based programming is more convenient when you want to program your own frequencies instead of importing repeaters. Now the negative... The provided antenna has high SWR on the VHF band, going from over 2.75 to over 3 across the band. Transmitting using high power while touching the battery metal contacts on the back will make you feel a RF burn after about 10 sec. transmission. Using a different antenna with a SWR below 2 over the band solved the RF burn problem.Overall the H8 is a great analog radio for the price.

I wanted to like this radio. The large color screen was a joy to look at.The radio felt sturdy like commercial radios I've used in the past (Kenwood and Motorola).USB-C charger is great and should be a standard on all future radios. It can be programmed like any other Baofeng re-badged radios: CHIRP or on the radio. The menus are the same. The deal killer was the buzzing when transmitting on the 2m calling frequency at medium and high power. It's going back. Hopefully the replacement will be better.*** Update ***I received the replacement radio and it does the same thing. I've seen a YouTube video indicating it's the USB-C battery which is too bad since it's the reason I bought one. My Baofeng TP-8Plus and it's GMRS version both with USB-C batteries don't have this problem. Maybe Tidradio will get everything right in a version 3.***. Update 2 ***I got a 3rd unit recently from a different seller after hearing about updated USB-C batteries. This unit came with a second battery.Neither batteries caused the squealing noise on 146.52MHz.Overall it's a great radio with features the more expensive radios have yet to give their customers.Ignore spurious emissions comments. The antenna isn't tuned for them so they'll be extremely attenuated.
