I sew so I was excited to try this. The cutter sits inside the base but you can take it out and stand it up on the other side using the slot in the middle of the base. I like not having to use my scissors to cut it. The blades are decently sharp and was able to cut through my thread fairly easily by just pressing it down on the blade. The only thing is I don't think the blades can be replaced on this although you can spin the blades so you're using a different one as it wears down. The way it's designed, it would be pretty hard to accidentally cut yourself with this. There are also magnets on both sides which is nice for sticking your needles and pins on especially if you tend to lose your pins and needles. The magnet is definitely strong enough without being impossible to pull off from. Overall, pretty good item for sewers for holding your pins and as a thread cutter.
