You guy these things work! I hardly ever leave reviews but I have to on this one. I had a box of brown sugar that was hard as a rock. I was going to throw it away but decided to try this. I swear within 2 days it was like brand new soft out of the box. I’m buying 4 more for other sugars and baked goods. Love them.

On a reçu avec les rebords cassés. Étant fragile il aurait été nécessaire de l'emballé dans du papier bulle...

I’ve always wanted one of these to keep my rock hard brown sugar soft. I chose the teddy bear and I love it! A tad bigger than I expected, but still so glad to have it.

We moved and now live in a very dry, desert climate and I could not believe how rock hard my brown sugar would get. I had heard of these but never had the need for one until now and although I was skeptical, they really do work! Follow the directions included - my first try and a very rock-hard bag of brown sugar became as soft as a fresh bag in just a few hours! I do think this is a bit pricey for what it is but that really isn’t a complaint since I am saving money by not throwing all the brown sugar away.

I was Amazed at the transformation from Solid Rock (similar to granite) to soft and pliable useable brown sugar! I was very skeptical but my daughter uses one and swears by it, so after looking at my 5lb bag of Brown Sugar “stone”I figured what the heck I’ll try! I bought 2 of the clay bears and soaked them for 15-20min. and dropped them both in the bag of brn sugar and left them for 1 day, the next morning I opened the bag, and was shocked to find that the top 2-3 inches was soft and scoopable! I removed the soft amount and put the bears back in and rolled up the bag for another day! I did this 3-4 times but I managed to save 5lbs of Brown Sugar that I was ready to toss‼️ These little clay bears are Amazing‼️😎

Have been using this item for about two months and it has been very effective at keeping the brown sugar soft. It only took a day for it to turn a solid, rock hard lump of sugar into something easily spoonable.

First off, this works great. The trick is to soak it first, let it air dry for a few minutes, then towel it off before putting it into the sugar. It kept my brown sugar moist in a dry climate for many weeks. It worked really well, a little too well. Since I hadn't seen my sugar saver for a few weeks, I though it was much larger. In a rush to make cookies, I quickly checked my bag of brown sugar, felt what I thought was the saver at the bottom of the bag, then scooped out a packed cup and put it in a bowl. Unfortunately, the sugar saver fit perfectly in my stainless, one-cup measuring cup, something I didn't notice until I turned on the mixer. Before I threw everything in the garbage, I noticed that the sugar saver is solid terra cotta. Good to know. I also learned to thoroughly check my sugar before adding it to the bowl. My suggestion would be to buy two of these. Wish I had.

I'm so surprised that it works so well. Follow the directions though. I read in various comments sections that some people soaked it for 30 minutes. The instructions say soak it for 15 minutes. I was so sick of rock hard brown sugar that I went ahead and soaked it for 30 minutes. The brown sugar is definitely moist...almost wet.

Smaller than expected (it's about the size of a silver dollar), but if you follow the instructions, it works perfectly. I open my brown sugar container (2 quart size; super airtight seal to begin with) about 1-3 times per week, so I find that I have to re-soak the disk every 2-3 weeks, and overnight it re-softens any hardening sugar; but I imagine if you don't open your container very often (assuming also it is truly air-tight -- NEWSFLASH: zipper bags and ceramic jars with loose lids aren't airtight!!! Invest in ClickClack [my choice] or OXO POP lock containers), one 20 minute soaking in good clean water will suffice for quite awhile. Also, to those complaining it contaminates their sugar, I simply have to believe you are using unfiltered, dirty, or very hard tap water; terra cotta is by its very nature clean and food-safe. Despite our very dry climate here in Colorado, at least our water (in Boulder, off the Arapahoe Glacier) is clean and comes only semi-hard (generally doesn't require softening apart from health concerns). Try soaking in distilled or at least filtered water (after cleaning, disinfecting or using a brand new one), and see if you don't get better results.

I see a lot of people complaining, but I've never had trouble. There is only so much moisture these can add, so if you are using them in a container that has a lot of volume then, for Pete's sake, add more than one, and recharge them with water at least every other week. I also wouldn't expect them to soften a rock hard bag of brown sugar, but I would expect them to keep a supple bag of brown sugar supple as long as you squish out any excess air and seal the bag sufficiently. I also use these to keep expensive doggie treats "Greenies" soft and pliable, my 10 year old Yorkie doesn't eat them if they've been allowed to go hard. These disks are not sponges, so they wont do the work of a sponge, and I wouldn't put a sponge with foodstuff anyway, I want to create moisture in the air so things don't dry out, actual contact wetness would be asking for bacteria or mold to get a foothold and that's unacceptable. I leave the disk soaking overnight (probably more time than is needed), then I remove surface wetness with a paper towel before placing in any food container, ours or the dogs; again moist air not wetness on the product being treated. If you find these inadequate you are expecting more from them than they were meant to do, so I recommend multiple disks, or removal of excess air and then sealing the bag to prevent the container from giving up it's moist air. I bought this on February 19th. I have just checked my brown sugar today and it is still nice and soft and NOT ROCK HARD!! I was concerned that this may NOT work and would not be all it's cracked up to be, but so far I am proved wrong! I hope this lives up to some of the reviews I've heard of this product and hope that it DOES last up to three months without getting rock hard. Well, so far, I am pleased!
