Much more durable that way but do not expect to be able to make any sharp 90 degree turns with it.The dimmer does NOT have a memory. Resets to 100% on every power cycle.

Many of the reviews talk about the difficulty of making shorter strings from the one 50' length. Note that as received both ends have male connectors, and each end can plug into the power supply. The trick to making shorter strings is to measure and cut from each end, so that you end up with two lengths, both of which can be plugged into the power supply. The catch is that you only get ONE power supply (why they say you only cut once), so you'll have to cobble together another way to power the second end and get 12v to that end as well. Mine go on a boat replacing two worn out 12v rope lights, so I have two 12v sources already. I cut two 81" (~2 meters) pieces for my use, and both worked fine. The places where you can cut (which are every 1 meter (39") are NOT marked with scissor marks as described in the instructions, but are the places with an approximate 1" of silver wire showing and have + and - polarity marks showing. I cut mine with a good pair of sharp scissors. The supplied glue is then used to seal the cut ends so nothing can short them out. Note that the connectors are polarized, but can be forced to connect the wrong way. Pay attention when plugging in, and if making the second end 12v connection with a cobbled together 12v source, make sure to connect properly.

I waited to give my review for almost 1 year. Bought in Sept ‘21, so almost there. Used on the back porch.I gave 4 & 5 stars on installation & adhesion. They were definitely easy to install & it’s nice that they are expandable. They definitely stayed up the whole time. But then again, we reinforced with clips. The brightness was ok. It’s nice they are dimmable, but the bright is so low that we really didn’t adjust them down. The only thing I really wanted to leave a review about is the longevity. About 4 months ago, the first section started to flicker & went out. So, we had them around 7 or 8 months. By the time we took them down this week, we had 4 sections out. All in all, don’t expect long time lighting.

My son is 9 months old and his room never had a spot in the ceiling for us to set up a light, just a plug and a lamp connected to the light switch so that’s what we’ve been doing. Now that he’s on the move more my husband suggested we get a “better” lamp for his room and I quickly disagreed. I wanted lights that were non-hazardous and out of the way, and LED lights were for us to get that done.Putting these up were difficult only because they were quite heavy duty. The adhesive glue that came in the package wasn’t quick dry like super glue is, so my husband and I used command strips because that’s all we really had (I’m sure mounting tape would’ve worked too)Once we got a system in place with the command strips, it was easier to screw the plastic holders to keep the lights secured.Overall, I am extremely happy with how they came out!

The product looks great, is dimmable and provides the color of light (e.g. 3000K) I was looking for. I installed the strand under an outdoor deck rail and waterproofed all the connections using exterior use silicone tape in late March. However, after less than 10 hours of use, there are already two individual lights in the strand that no longer illuminate. These are LED lights and they should certainly operate problem free for at least one year. I am very disappointed this happened in such a short time and am concerned that increasing numbers of the lights will fail shortly with continued use. UPDATE 4/26: Surnie contacted me regarding my initial review and sent a replacement string of lights that work great. Excellent customer service.
