I bought this to clean the heads of my old Sony hi8 Handycam 8 millimeter video camera. Unfortunately, this tape is not for video cameras, it is for cleaning the heads of tape drives (remember the old computer back-up systems?). This does nothing when you insert it into a video camera. I learned the hard way and did research and found that the only product still on the market is the Sony V8-25CLD cleaning tape for hi8 / 8 millimeter. I think the V8-25CLD is intended for digital video cameras (my sony is from 1996 so analog), but it seems to work with both analog and digital 8 millimeter video cameras.I think the seller of this product should be a lot clearer about what this product is actually for, so it is deceiving.

The tape I received is for a Data Tape head cleaner. Not a Video Head cleaner. I did not know that data tape is used anymore by anybody when you can get (Random Access) Disk Drives for 10 cents per Gig.I think the person who sold it to me has some left over supplies from the early 1990s and he think he saw the chance to get rid of some, so he jump to the order. The order was for a Sony V8 8mm tape head Cleaner. I thought the "V" in V8 was for Video

I recently picked up an older model Sony Digital 8 camcorder. Got a new battery and it seemed to work fine, but when I played back the footage, I kept getting less than great results. The image looked interlaced, and the audio was messing up. I thought the camera was getting old and was falling apart. Read through some forums and decided to try a cleaning tape. Since my camera was Sony, I tried this one out. I ran the tape twice to be sure it would work, recorded some footage, played it back, and boy was I surprised. The issues I had earlier had gone away. This cleaning tape really works. I would recommend this to anyone with similar problems that I faced.

I recently bought a Hi8 camcorder that was 20 years old from craigslist, I get it and 2 weeks later the tape is very fussy. The picture was like snow and the video merged together about 75%, 25% respectively. I put the tape in and it cleared right away, I now clean after every 4 tapes that have been played. This tape also fixes the timer not working. HUGE MONEY SAVER!
