I set this pump up w/o any issues according to directions enclosed. I put it in a yard fountain to keep water from being stagnant, & was pleased with the spray, just a little difficulty adjusting so that water did not overshoot fountain--some trial and error, a bit puzzled on not being able to adjust the pump itself--only the nozzles could be changed out to control the spraying. Worked well for about a day, next day rainy so not on, then sunny day....and this no longer functioning at all..cleaned the pump, changed the nozzle, made sure water was clean--all to no avail, Very unhappy with product......

I noticed right away, out of the box, that the submersible pump needed a filter since birds and the wind can be counted on to leave particles in the water. I cut a postage stamp sized piece of 3M scratcher (the green scratcher for kitchen duty) and put it over the inlet of the pump, and attached with a small rubber band. Also, I discovered that if I put a small wood chip on the solar collector (it has 18 cells in the collector and the chip covers one cell), the pump works intermittently (on...then off...then on again, etc.) and that just might attract birds. Overall, the pump works as advertised and I'm quite satisfied, even though this pump is not for me. I have a terra cotta dish that is about 1 1/2" deep and it wouldn't take long for the dish to lose water because of the wind blowing the spray. I probably need a dripper instead of a fountain. That's not the fountain's fault. It works as advertised. Update: I have this pump sitting in a 14" terra cotta dish. When it runs dry of water, it makes a huge racket. I thought they were using power tools across the street, but thought I ought to check my water pump....and it was the water pump making the racket. This pump need to be in, not only a larger diameter bird feeder, but more massive so it can absorb the vibration of the pump should it run dry. I get almost a 2 foot rise in the fountain, which is part of the problem of it running dry in a 14" plate. So I put a piece of electrician tape over a cell, and that lowered the spray to about 4 inches, reducing lost water. It's the wrong pump for the application, but it's fun fooling with it.
