This is a really neat solution for a third-party battery. It charges up fine and doesn't really need much more than USB2 power, so any power bank will charge it.Battery life seems fine. I would note that the low-capacity warning comes on where my older batteries would still be warning 10%, 12% etc. I don't believe the battery lasts any less time, but perhaps it is dropping to a lower voltage a little earlier, or perhaps batteries like this are simply unable to communicate whatever information a Sony battery would. It's nicely made, good value, charges quickly and it works well. Being able to charge by plugging into a USB power bank has such obvious value when shooting over a long day I'm annoyed at myself for not buying these earlier.

After being disappointed with Wasabi batteries, which were top-notch years ago, I am trying this brand. Time will tell whether it will outlast the others, but I love the way that you can connect a USB C cable directly to it for charging.

Built in charger is very convenient. So far it is performing as expected, but time will tell.

They worked perfectly in my original Sony A7 - lasted all day. The USB-C is a huge win - I was able to use my existing cables from a MacBook thus saving having to carry another. It does come with a USB-C.

I love the fact that this battery can directly be charged via usb-c cable. There is no need for a separate charger with this battery. This allows you to pack fewer items or replace your wall charger with a power bank that is much more versatile. The battery has a pretty good life and offers very similar performance to the OEM. Only time will tell how long this battery will perform in comparison.

After market camera batteries can be troublesome and often lack the endurance of OEM batteries (albeit at a far more reasonable cost). Smallrig is a highly reputable and well-regarded camera accessory manufacturer and this product shines. Not only have I noticed no difference whatsoever between the performance of this product and OEM Sony batteries, but the added convenience of direct charging via plugin USB cable means carrying a lighter pack since no charger is required. So better than OEM!
I love it! It sure keeps my brain busy…

Don’t look no further this is the battery you need. I feel like it last longer than my original battery... I have a Sony ZVE 10 and it worked great and it came in handy for a back up battery!

Lasts just as long as the battery from Sony at half the price. I generally carry a power brick with for my phone and being able to charge this without any extra gear is nice.

As a photographer who’s always on the move, I demand reliability and convenience from my gear—and the SMALLRIG NP-FW50 Battery with USB-C absolutely delivers. If you’re looking for a replacement battery for your Sony A7S II (or other compatible models), this is a must-have for your kit.Why It Stands Out:Convenient USB-C Charging:This feature is a game-changer. No bulky chargers needed—just plug in a USB-C cable, and you’re good to go! Whether I’m in a hotel room or charging it off a power bank in the middle of nowhere, it’s incredibly versatile.Reliable Performance:With a capacity of 1030mAh, this battery holds its own against the original Sony version. I tested it during a day of shooting and got almost identical performance, with smooth transitions between video and stills. It’s perfect for event coverage or long sessions in the field.Compact & Lightweight:It’s practically weightless in my bag, yet packs enough juice to keep my camera running. Plus, SMALLRIG has a reputation for durable gear, so I trust this little battery to last.Cost-Effective Alternative:Let’s face it: OEM batteries are expensive. This SMALLRIG replacement is a budget-friendly option without compromising quality or reliability.Potential Drawbacks:Not for Ultra-Heavy Shooters:If you’re shooting all day without access to charging, you’ll likely need multiple batteries or a larger capacity option. However, the USB-C charging helps bridge this gap.Cable Not Included:While most of us have USB-C cables lying around, it would have been nice if one came with the battery for convenience.Who’s It For?This battery is perfect for Sony photographers and videographers who value portability and need a dependable, affordable alternative to OEM batteries. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a weekend warrior, it’s an essential backup or primary power source. The Bottom Line:The SMALLRIG NP-FW50 Battery is a small but mighty addition to any photographer’s gear bag. Between the USB-C convenience, reliable performance, and unbeatable price point, it checks all the boxes for a top-tier replacement battery. It’s the kind of accessory you’ll wonder how you ever lived without—so just get it already. You’ll thank yourself later!

I will start off by saying: do not buy this battery. Instead, opt for SmallRig's NP-FW50 Camera Battery and Charger Kit. That one is a keeper. Its batteries are identical to the OEM versions, and the charger is one of the best you can get for the money. This USB-C battery has a design flaw that prevents it from staying securely inside the camera. The chamfered edge interferes with the camera's battery latch, preventing it from engaging properly. As a result, the battery fits more loosely than the original and falls out whenever the camera cover is opened. SmallRig, K&F Concept, and Viltrox—all of which offer these USB-C camera batteries—suffer from the same issue. It’s almost as if they are made by the same manufacturer and simply rebranded.
