Look, these are the best closed-back headphones you are going to get in this price range. A lot of people compare the sound quality to Sennheiser HD 600, and I think these are as close as you'll get for closed-back.BUT! The materials and build quality are unacceptable. I have had these for less than a year and the hinge that everyone has talked about for years broke with gentle treatment. After contacting Shure, they want me to go through the whole process of sending these in for repairs. They need to make the exact same set of headphones but with metal on the band. I don't know whether I would recommend buying these or not. Headphones should last for years, but the sound is really good on these....

This is my second pair and both sets broke on the left side at the exact same place. Just above the ear piece there are plastic bands that slide in and out to adjust for your head size and shape. I have had 2 pairs of these headphones and both broke in the same place. This is a design problem. They are great headsets, but they insist on uses a material that is not strong enough to last. I was very careful with the second pair since the first one was broken and it still broke. I can't use the headsets. They will not stay on my head. I looked at another set I own, from another company, and they use metal bands which are far more durable. The bands don't touch your head. This has been expensive. I bought 2 pairs and now I need a replacement. One thing for sure, the new pair won't be Shure. If you buy these you are wasting your money.

I use them for live monitoring on a small church, they block the sound from the surroundings (not noise cancellation), the detachable cable is very convenient, and the storage bag is a nice plus. I am not an audio professional, but i am very pleased with the sound they provide, the length of the cable is just enough to move around my space, i looked for many reviews about monitoring on a budget and those were very much recomended in several blogs, worth every penny

The Shure SRH840 is the best bang on the market and they will last you for many years. I have owned a pair for about 11 years and used them on countless recordings and they never let me down. They sound amazing with just the right about of low, mid, and high frequency. A neutral and balanced sound perfect for recording or listening enjoyment. They also give you an extra pair of ear pads to replace the ones on the headphones once they go bad. You also receive a nice pouch to put your headphones in during storage and a detachable cable. Feel confident in purchasing these headphones and know your get more than $150 pair.

These headphones have the quality you would expect. They fully encapsulate your ear for superb room noise cancelling. They have nice bass and crisp highs when used with a good sound system. Bass is not overwhelming, but plenty to fill the low end.I specify good sound system because when you use them with your smart phone or gaming system, they do not perform and sound their best due to the lower power output of these devices. But this should be expected. These are lower level studio monitors which are designed to run on something a little better than a smartphone.

SRH 840 is moderately priced but better quality than 440. Everything in overall better than 440. As a 20 year old SHURE consumer, SHURE has never disappointed me in a line of work that I do. Defenitely worth it. Noise cancellation only 4 stars because technically it does not have anything to cancel noise other than the earpad muffs out the sound but you can still hear in loud situations.

I edit audio for a living so I'm very particular about headphones. I love the Shure 840s. I have a pair that I've worn out but they still work great. Now that I work from home regularly I bought this one to keep at home so I don't have to carry one back and forth to work. They are pricey but worth every dollar!

Hmm, just got them today and have been listening to them very carefully. Still kind of getting adjusted to the sound signature but I do like the overall sound, had to eq it a bit to get it to sound more to my liking but they started to open up more once I did. I've been coming from the DT-770's and I believe that they sound better actually (in my opinion), but that's not to say that I don't enjoy these (SRH-840.) Still adjusting to them though. The highs are pretty smooth and detailed and I like that, mids sound clear, the relatively light bass is what I first noticed but I boosted it to my liking with eq and got them to thump pretty hard. I'm just into all kinds of different headphones and been trying all kinds of them out. I love the design of them, and as far as noise cancellation they seem to do a really good job at that. Comfort isn't too bad either but when you are used to velour pads like on the DT-770 lol it's kind of hard to get used to anything else. Giving the SRH-840 a four star rating. They are decent and worth the money. Peace.
