Works great for attaching devices that may be a bit heavy for the camera's hot shoe. Note that it is a cold shoe.

The unit cosmetically resembles the more-expensive "lyre" type shock mounts from Rycote. I've used Rycote shock mounts for mics on boom poles so I know how very effective they can be. But this unit does not do what it exists to do--when I mount my Zoom H2 to it, the noise from a handle attached to the bottom it is transmitted just as loudly as if the handle is attached directly to the Zoom H2.The reason is that the springs are very stiff plastic. Not like the very elastic plastic used by Rycote.I am returning this unit. I didn't want to spend as much on a Rycote mount as the H2 recorder itself...but there is a reason Rycote is the recognized name in this sort of product. You get what you pay for.

I read some of the negative reviews and, despite them, thought I'd take a chance on this. I mounted it to my Canon 80D with my Audio Technica AT8024 shotgun mic and used my Sony MDR 7506 headphones to assess it. There is a noticeable reduction in focusing motor noise with this isolator. At $19, it's priced right.Maybe there are better isolators out there and the people who had negative reviews had higher expectations. I don't know. FYI, I am not a video pro and have just recently purchased this Canon 80D. Shooting some video for some personal projects and am very new to this craft. Used to be an advertising shooter from 1990 to about 2004, so I have solid technical proficiency with imaging, just not with sound. The aluminum hotshoe fitting is a bit tight, but that's about the only nit I can give it.Just thrilled with this purchase.

Worked good for a few shoots then broke. The suspension arms are rather weak. If you just it for the stereo handheld recorder then it’s probibly fine. But if you have any XLR’s plugged in then it’s just to much for this little guy

I use this shockmount with a handheld field recorder to eliminate handling noise, which it does admirably. Thus far I've just stashed it in my backpack with the handle I use when I'm out recording, and it's held up just fine. The springy bits are made of plastic, which I was nervous would break easily, but so far so good. The way it's constructed, it looks like that part should be easy to replace if it does break... if BOYA is willing to sell just that (I haven't tried to contact the company about this, and hopefully won't need to).

This sits very high off the camera or shoe mount. The plastic is very firm, so the dampening effect is small. The part is durable enough so far.
