The Sansa Clip is truly a well-made and seemingly undermarketed product. Cheap, long battery life, stores a great deal of music, easy music loading (plug in, then drag-and-drop), plays MP3 and OGG files. Built-in radio and tiny yet good-quality microphone included (I've done interviews with it and I'm very impressed by the result, saved as WAV.) Light, super-portable, the included earbuds aren't bad either. Great for joggers or hikers. Works well with audiobooks too, "bookmarks" where you left off if you switch to something else. Perhaps best of all, with a new refurbished Clip at down to $20, I'm never too worried about losing it - I'm not saying that I'm careless with it, but I am saying that I don't lose sleep if I don't know where it is.For the sake of a balanced review I'll mention some things the Clip doesn't do so well. 1) if you have more than 20ish authors or albums on the Clip, it can become tedious to scroll through all of them and the "Shuffle All" option might be better, and 2) sometimes it has trouble detecting the audiobooks as audiobooks (putting them in the "Music" category instead). 3) it would be nice if you could browse music by folder and filename, instead of the Clip having to spend up to 3 minutes detecting all your files and organizing them into its own special library based on music metadata.

My purpose-------------* To listen to radio or audio books while walking or runningThe good part-------------* Audio quality is good and can be controlled using an equalizer.* Long battery life.* Small and very light.* FM radio has presets.* FM radio can still pickup stations with strong signals even inside a building. It's better outside of course.* FM radio has seek function (automatically looks for stations with good signal and stops there)* Can record/replay/delete voice so you can remind to yourself to get out more often during good weather. Can record FM stations too.* 2GB is plenty of space for several audio books and music.* Remembers your last setting after you turn it on - whether it was a particular FM station or in the middle of an audio.* Can fast forward to the middle of an audio. This is very useful if you listen to long (boring) audio books.* Volume is good. I live in Iowa and it's very windy when I am out walking.* Has lock feature to prevent accidentally pressing buttons while inside your pocket.* Acts like a flash drive when attached to a PC so it's easy for me to transfer and manage files. I have Windows 2000 (it's old I know...)The bad ones-------------* Can't play audio or listen to radio while charging.* The only way to charge is through USB.* Requires USB cable (comes in the box), the unit can't be plugged in directly.* No antenna for FM radio. Indoor signals would have been much better.* Tiny display, only 3 lines are shown at a time. Some notes-------------* If you notice that the unit is not charging a few seconds after plugging the USB try this: press the Home button select Settings-->USB Mode-->MSC. The default is auto. The battery indicator must be animated while the unit is being charged.* When adding audio files, make sure to put them under the MUSIC folder of the device, otherwise they won't show up in the list. You may create subfolders under the MUSIC folder and they will be properly listed.* After adding files into the unit, allow it to refresh the database. I did not want to experiment to find out if you try to turn it off at that time. It's just 1-2 seconds.Final word-------------* If your need for this product is similar to mine, you won't be disappointed.Hope it helps...

Yes, you can hold 1000 songs. 1000 WMA songs, that is. WMA is another unworthy compressed music format that, when converted to, degrades the quality of the original source audio(lossy file compression for audio files). But, if you are a real person that exists and you only tolerate clear, high quality audio, you only get little over 450 songs. You obviously get no video playback. But it'd be nice if they had put some sort of simple game to play on this, like Pong. Or maybe even turn it horizontally for a little Tetris action. This product was worth the money while it was still $30 here on amazon. Great sound quality. I can ride on the loud New York City subway trains, put the volume at about 80$, and drown out the clang, clatter, loud groups of school kids, and crying babies of the train.I recommend buying different headphones. The included ones just don't go as loud or drown out the noise like these: And plus, those plain black headphones with the sponge around them just aren't cool.Batter life is unsurprisingly great. It better had been. I haven't listened to this thing straight long enough to know the exact battery life, but after about 5 hours, the battery meter is a little less than half empty. USB charging, as normal. The user interface is superfluous, like all of Sansa's mp3 players. Like going back to the full song list, for instance, requires a 2 clicks, instead of 1 like the ipod, which gets really annoying sometimes. The screen is very easy to read. Navigation through extensive song lists is manageable(you have to press and hold the buttons). It can read Windows Media playlists! But, sadly not Itunes playlists.I like using Itunes to make those really cool Genius playlists, which are made up of songs that Apple's database thinks "goes great together". But there are a few freeware applications you can use to very easily export your itunes to WM playlists. (hint hint)It really is an Accessory. You can literally wear it. I wouldn't want to show off that cheap little thing, though, unless you don't have a reputation to uphold.Another plus is being able to record directly from off any radio channel you are listening to. The radio only goes goes up to 105.1FM, instead of the full band at 108.0FM. But, who really listens to radio enough to even care? It gets a little static-y, though. But you can't really blame a device this small and of such low voltage. The built-in microphone is like "eh". I think the just wanted another gimmick to make people think that its a great buy, not that it isn't.Great product, overall. I'd recommend the 4GB model, though, even if the silver paint makes it look even more cheap, like all products painted silver. 'Hope this extensive review helped. A nice, fitting silicon case will do good, too.**What is it with that silver paint on electronics, anyways? It's so played out...
