Very good radios. I have no issues or concerns with them. Easy programming.

I've been a user of the UV-5R for a while now. This radio will do everything that radio will, but it has a larger and color screen, 10W of power, USB-C battery charging, etc.Out of the box mine would TX on both HAM and GMRS. I had to "reset" my UV-5R to get this functionality. Maybe I got lucky or perhaps all 5RM's are like this...I'm not sure.Only drawback is that the radio itself is larger and a bit more expensive, but it's not too large to where it's a burden to carry. And let's be honest, all of these radio's today are a bargain for what they can do.This is a nice bundle too that includes one radios, a couple of antennas, programming cable, etc.If you're unsure what radio to get, search out some videos online as there are plenty going over this radio and comparing it to others.

I liked all the accessories and no longer being restricted to a limited amount of channels to upload. I cannot transmit because I am unlicensed. Programming is supported by chirp. I went to the device mananage and the prolific driver was failing to load and had a yellow ! in the device mananger. After another download and a fresh install plus a restart of my computer I was able to download from the radio. I have all the areas around me from radio refereence and had to copy them in the download and upload to the radio. The repeaters are fun to listen to, I live near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and poeple are broadcasting from way upnorth in Wisconsin using the repeaters. I guess one day maybe I will get licensed and start a new hobby. The sound of the speaker is loud and solid.

This radio is a nice upgrade to the UV-5R. I don't have the means at the moment to authoritatively measure the output - but to be fair, output power for Chinese-made HTs (Baofeng, TDIRadio, Radioddity, etc.) tend to be overstated, much like flashlight lumens. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter much - output power is not very important, relative to antenna/rat tail/etc.So - ignoring output power - subjectively, the radio's range seems comparable to the UV-5R, side by side, with comparable antennas. If it's more powerful, I'm not able to tell.I do like the (multi) color display - functionally, it's comparable to the monochrome display on the UV-5R, but it's more attractive and MUCH easier to read. The radio is a bit bigger than the UV-5R with the standard battery, but not huge - if small is a major factor, you might want to stick to the 5R. I find that the 5RM is the perfect size for my hand. I also like that the battery can be directly charged via USB-C - this means that you don't need a cradle to charge your radio, so that's better for camping, road trips, etc., but also that you can charge extra batteries without them being in the radio - it's the best of both worlds. This kit provides all the accessories you'll need - acoustic ear piece, shoulder mic, rubber ducky, longer whip antenna, and programming cable - if you're a new ham, this is a good starter kit, and plenty of bang for the buck at

Got this with the hopes of relearning all the things I forgot from my past about HAM Radios and airwaves communications. The radio is sturdy and comes with plenty of accessories such as a shoulder mount microphone, 2 different size antennae, earbud attachment for the shoulder mic. Looks great and will update after using it a few more times, as my assessment at this moment based on my knowledge would be unfair.

The 5RM is one of my two favorite entry-level radios. The other is the Tidradio H3. Functionally, they're pretty similar. Both are very inexpensive considering how much radio you get for the money. The 5RM is probably the best entry-level Baofeng out there. So, you can't go wrong with this radio. It's great. What's better?A good kit so your radio experience is enhanced. This is it. The most important addition to the standard, radio, charger and antenna is the inclusion of a good programming cable. This kits worked out of the box, no special drivers needed. Plug & play on Windows 11. I was able to use CHIRP (an open-sourced program for setting up radios) immediately to program the 5RM. Excellent stuff. However, you also get a Baofeng 771 antenna in addition to the standard one. This is a Nagoya knock-off, of course, right down to the number. However, it's well constructed and measure almost as good as a standard Nagoya. You also get a speaker/microphone so you can use that instead of having to hold the radio your face. It's decent in quality. Not great, but not bad, especially for the money. You also get a rinky-dink earpiece with a push-to-talk. These are pretty standard and all of them are junk, but I know people who like them. This one works, but not great.Still, this is the kit if you're just getting into amateur radio. The radio is good. Programming cable included, and some extra bits of kit to make for a more complete radio experience. You can't go wrong.

Has mixed reviews with spurious emissions , mine works well. Going to be a spare in my truck. Larger screen, easy to use. Loaded with Chirp, no problems. Came with a cheap mic, replaced it with a better one. get the one with the larger battery instead of the mic.

Bought this radio as an upgrade to my first cheaper radio. It has many more useful features that make it well worth the money. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an upgrade or even a first time purchase.
