Quick Guide To Using Vacuum Sealer Bags For Food

  1. Cool Items Before Sealing: Ensure that vacuum-sealed items are cooled before vacuum sealing. Warm food produces condensation, which can lead to moisture in the bag and cause freezer burn during frozen storage, even with adequate vacuum and air removal.
  2. Maintain Cleanliness: Handle vacuum-sealed items with clean hands or tools to keep the items sanitary.
  3. Prepare Bags Appropriately: If using vacuum sealer bag rolls, customize the bag to fit your item’s size and then heat seal one end. For precut vacuum sealer bags, this step can be skipped.
  4. Leave Space in the Bag: Do not overfill the vacuum seal bag. The open end of the bag needs space to remove air and form a proper seal.
  5. Remove Residual Liquid and Particles: Wipe off any liquids or particles from the top of the bag before sealing. Tiny food particles or excess juice can interfere with the seal, potentially causing the contents to deteriorate.
  6. Align the Bag Correctly: Align the bag properly within the vacuum sealer according to its user guide. The sealing process will only function correctly if the open end is appropriately aligned.
  7. Inspect the Seal: After sealing, inspect the bag to ensure it is properly sealed. If necessary, perform a second seal for added protection.
  8. Clean After Use: Clean the sealing area of your vacuum sealer with a gently dampened cloth after use. Residual liquid or ingredients can affect the sealing process and weaken the seal.

Tips and Tricks for Storing Food in Vacuum Seal Bags

  • Avoid Light Exposure: Light exposure can increase spoilage times. Food can generate gas when exposed to light, making the vacuum-sealed bag appear as if it has lost its vacuum.
  • Avoid High Temperatures: High temperatures speed up food spoilage. Food can generate gas during the spoilage process, which can make the vacuum-sealed bag appear as if it has lost its vacuum. Store vacuum-sealed food in the fridge or freezer.
  • Vacuum Packing Greasy or Moist Items: When vacuum packing greasy or moist items, you can fold back the outer edges of the bag, place the item inside, and then fold the edges back again. This helps keep the sealing area clean.
  • Vacuum Packing Liquids: To vacuum pack liquids like soup or sauce, first freeze the liquid in a container of the appropriate shape, then vacuum seal the frozen blocks in the bags.
  • Blanching Vegetables: To better retain their vibrant color, some vegetables such as green beans and broccoli should be blanched before sealing and freezing.
  • Sealing Crispy Snacks: To seal crispy snacks like potato chips, just heat seal the bag without vacuuming. Vacuuming can crush your snacks.

These are high quality vacuum seal bags.I've been using these to seal all kinds of food from beans to meat. They function as advertised and provide an excellent vacuum seal every time. So far, they seem very durable. None of the bags I have used have become punctured or had a seal fail.I find that having bags instead of the rolls of bag material is very convenient, and the 8" x 11" size is very useful. However, I can still always cut a bag in half to make a smaller bag if needed.Something I really like about these bags is the tear notch on the side of the bag that allows the bag to be opened without scissors (see pic). Although these are good quality bags, they are $7.00 to $10.00 MORE than other 100 pks of quart sized vacuum seal bags on Amazon with 4 Star+ reviews. I haven't tried the other brands, so I can't compare them to these, but the price difference is REALLY high. The price of these bags has gone up by over $5.00 in the last couple of weeks. I like these bags, but the price is REALLY high at $24.99. At this price, I'm spending .25 cents a bag. That's a lot when you're on a budget. I took one star off my review due to the recent price increase. I probably wouldn't want to pay that much when less expensive options are available. My rating: Four Stars.

I see the value of these bags in a whole new light now that I sous vide! I’ve always loved meat and sous vide has made the process so much easier but these bags are a MUST- especially if you’re making bigger cuts of meat such as roasts, racks of ribs or briskets. They sealed just right and didn’t leak! The meat came out perfect! There was some buoyancy on my ribs but I attribute that to the food saver more than anything else. These things are a game changer!

Review of Quart Vacuum Sealer Bags for Food, 8x11 Inch, BPA Free Heavy Duty Vacuum Seal Bags for Food Saver, Freezer, Seal a Meal, Sous Vide, Meal Prep, Preprinted Labeling Area, Precut 100 countQuality:Good. Plastic is thick, side seams are solid. No marks or odorsImpressions:These bags aren't the thickest I've seen but they are on the thicker side. They feel solid. The side seams are sturdy. There's a nice large white area for labeling which accepts a permanent marker or ball point pen. A test run has held for a few days now.I use a lot of vacuum bags. I make large batches and freeze meal portion sizes for the freezer. Liquid-y food like chili or stew gets frozen in cubes and vacuum packed the next day. Casseroles get slid inside and frozen as is. That way I can use full vacuum pressure and not have to do manual or 'wet' settings. There's zero risk of freezer burn that way. Convenient and easy to stack and store. I also use them to store nuts and whole grains and large amounts of spices or herbs or teas or coffee. The thinner bags spring leaks with the whole grains, these haven't so far. They're working great so far. If I see the test bag has failed I will update.

I really like these vacuum sealer bags. They are already in the form of bags, so you don't have to make you own bags out of big rolls of plastic. The quart size is the size we use most, so we will use the entire box of these bags. The plastic is food grade, and I like that it's free of BPA, Pb, and phthalates. There's an area on the bag where you can use a marker to easily label the date and contents of the bag. There's also a tear notch for easy opening of the bag.The plastic is a good thickness, and is tear and puncture resistant. At the time of this review, you receive 100 quart-size bags for $24.99. I think that's an excellent value. I like the quality of these bags better than the sample assortment of bags and rolls that came with my food sealing machine. The quart size bags are the most useful size for our family.
