While these cages look like a great bait holder, we found that smaller bait (sardines and anchovies) slip through the openings easily. We also found that the wire material is easily bent, when on several occasions, seals bent the cages open and stole the large bait. Work fine when the seals aren't around, but we're switching to PVC bait tubes moving forward.

Ordered the 1" square mesh boxes for crab bait. Recieved 1 that had 1" squares, the other is 1/4" squares. neither of them will stay closed. Crab can open the boxes and your bait will be gone when you pull your trap.

I like the coated wire design might help this box last longer in salt water. Will not use until spring break. The only thing I do not like is the pivot hinge on the back. There is not one, or one that works, it is glued together with the protective coating on all three of them I ordered. I am sure I will still be able to cram bait it there and I am sure it will help the bait last longer so the crabs will not devour it quite as fast as just tied on bait.

I got these super fast but the wire used to make the box is very thin, it bends easily too, probably wont even last the season.

This Protoco Bait Box is Orange and the one I got does not glow in the dark. It states on an attached Protoco Enterprises LLC tag, that it is a Medium Bait Box, approximately 6x6x3.5 inches and will surely hold adequate bait for a trap I have through a set time to catch a few crabs. The lid, latch and sides are secured with sleeve rings and after it is assembled, it is dipped in the orange rubber like coating, which will protect the trap for a good amount of time under normal use. The Tag even has a smart phone scan to check out other Protoco products, which are sold out of North Plains Oregon. If you have questions, just call their number 503-647-0082 or 800-237-0082 or go to [...] for more information, this is also on the tag. The hooked latch is secure when closed to hold the lid closed and should hold up to more than just normal use. If you want to secure it to your trap, you will need to come up with a snap that is sold separately or some hog rings or wire. A good bait box for the money and for your trap. I like it.
