It is a fine detector if you can be close to the subject.

Husband is conflicted about this security wand/metal detector. He did detect my titanium knees. The unit has a sensitivity switch, high/low, and there's a button to change the sound from audible to vibrate. It comes with a lower-quality battery, and the strap seems cheaply made from vinyl. Unfortunately, it appears that every effort was made to cut corners, from the housing of the unit to the holster strap to the battery, so Husband is not sure of the longevity or accuracy of the unit.

I was worried about the message it would send to have a metal detector at the basketball program an organization I work with hosts but within two weeks, our attendance more than doubled and I learned a valuable lesson from the youths themselves about how we can stop the violence. Many of the young people who carry weapons don't want to because of the risk of getting caught, the bad energy and the reputation as a troublemaker, gang member or criminal who's going to end up in jail they get amongst their peers but they are scared someone else else might have one and don't want to "get caught lacking". In Brownsville, where the brothas I wrote grants for have their programs, little beefs escalate all too quickly and a drop of prevention is worth liters of a cure. When I told one of them I had the opportunity to get a metal detector, he begged me to do so. I wasn't so sure if that wouldn't be seen as derogatory and jumping the gun (no pun intended) as nothing had happened yet. I got it and despite my reservations I agreed to wand the kids and look in their bags. Nobody batted an eyelash or protested. The next week, I was running a little late and when I arrived, rather than go into the gym, the players had waited for me outside the building and came in with me to be wanded and to have me look in their bags. I was talking to them at their practice today and they told me the reason they don't mind is because it makes them feel safer knowing noone has any weapons. The wand comes with a battery but I suggest you start with your own brand new battery. When I first turned it on, the sound was low and the vibration was weaker than when I got new batteries. With the new battery inserted, it works well, has good sound quality and gets the job done. I highly recommend this metal detector for those reasons.
