After my last gas leak detector met its end with an unfortunate tumble on a home inspection job, I knew exactly what I was missing—and what I needed in its replacement. As a home inspector, tools like these aren’t just conveniences; they’re essential for both my work and my peace of mind. That’s why I was relieved to find the TMOESAPU Portable Gas Leak Detector. It turned out to be a compact, user-friendly tool that’s easy to trust, especially in places where gas exposure is a real concern—like crawl spaces, tight utility closets, or RVs.The first thing I noticed about this newer model is how far the technology has come. It’s much smaller and lighter than the older detector I used to carry, and at a much more reasonable price point. I wouldn’t say every single homeowner needs to have one of these lying around, but for anyone working in older homes or living in an RV or trailer—especially during the cooler months when heating systems are in full use—this tool adds a reassuring layer of safety. What impressed me most was the dual alert system. The graphical screen shows gas levels in a clear format, and for those moments when your eyes are on something else—or you're unsure how to read the chart—the audio alert steps in. It’s loud enough to grab your attention without being overwhelming, which is a nice balance. This dual notification setup is a huge plus during inspections when I’m trying to juggle a flashlight, camera, clipboard, and still keep track of air quality. The flexible sniffer arm isn’t especially long, but that hasn’t been a problem so far. I’ve used it to check around appliance hookups, gas meters, and heater connections, and it reaches far enough to pick up potential leaks in those typical, tight places. If you needed to reach way into a vent stack or behind a large appliance, you might find the length a bit limiting, but for most day-to-day uses, it’s completely adequate.Another feature I really appreciate—and one I never had in my old unit—is the USB-C charging. That might seem like a small thing, but being able to plug it in using the same cable I use for my phone or flashlight makes a difference, especially in the field. No more fumbling around for spare AA batteries in the bottom of my tool bag.I’m giving it four stars instead of five because the build, while lightweight and portable, doesn’t feel especially rugged. It’s fine for what it is, but I’ll definitely be treating it with care—no accidental drops this time. A slightly sturdier casing or a carrying pouch would’ve made this an even better tool for professionals like me who are constantly on the move.Still, for the price and performance, this detector is a worthwhile upgrade that delivers solid peace of mind when you need it most.

I bought this to keep in my home and RV for extra safety, and I’m really glad I did. It’s easy to use right out of the box—just power it on, and it starts detecting. The audible and visual alarms are clear and loud, making it easy to notice any potential danger quickly.I tested it near a propane source, and it picked it up immediately. It’s sensitive enough to give you a heads-up before things get dangerous, which is exactly what you want. The design is lightweight and portable, so I can toss it in a drawer at home or in my RV kit.Great tool for anyone using gas appliances—adds an extra layer of protection for your family or travels.

I got this as I recently had a new gas oven installed and had suspicious of a leak. This fortunately was able to mitigate any worries I had. The manual that comes with it is a must-read, there are quite a few things you'll need to familiarize yourself with to properly understand what you're doing and seeing from the readings, but it is very self explanatory and easy to understand even for someone with zero background knowledge. After I familiarized myself with how it works, I went and tested it by turning on a gas burner and seeing how the readings would be on it, and everything was read as it should be, the gas was immediately detected. You could walk into another room with the burning running and slowly walk back in the room to clearly see the readings going up to verify the device works as intended. Super happy this thing is in my home now for any potential emergencies!

My circa 1921 house has an old natural gas furnace and natural gas hot water heater in the basement. I've always wanted to have a device that I could test the air when I'm spending hours in my unfinished basement and around these appliances in an area where there is not a lot of air circulation. I'm so glad I found this product. I tested the device by simply opening up the valve on a propane torch and it performed splendidly by detecting the gas and sounding an obnoxious alarm that would be hard to miss. You also can see a digital readout of the gas concentration. If you're hard of hearing the device also has flashing lights to alert you. It has rechargeable batteries you can refresh with the included USB cable. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the device.

We have a small leak under our stove that I know about, so I tested this on that area. It does seem to work, though not sure the accuracy of the actual measurements because I don't have a point of reference. In areas where there is no gas source, this shows a very low reading, but opening the cabinet where I know there is a smaller leak it does give a slower beeping alarm and shows a "moderate" level reading. Now when we get that fixed I'll be able to test again and make sure the fix worked. This should come in handy.
