Was looking at, these for a while then jumped on black Friday, deals on this 370gph. Just like the sunsun. Wanted something bigger, for our 19 yr old red eared slider. The submerged pump we had worked but got dirty super fast and wasn't big enough for our 40 gal tank. I, will, say instruction r meh. Quality is respectable for price. When I set it up I followed instructions after watching a bunch of diff YouTube videos. I lubed all the gaskets, got it all, set, and tried to prime. No, luck. Spent a couple hours check to make sure no, leaks, all, those things and no luck. Then found a forum, with a YouTube video and let, me tell, u, that, prime worked great! Once everything all, set up and intake is in water, canister empty, suck on outlet 1 time maybe 2, water will then flow and fill up canister and up into inlet pipe to same level as water. Turn on pump and bam. Then shake canister to get any, trapped air out. We changed water 2 days prior was starting to get a tiny merky, within 10 min of filter running was very clear! Pump is quiet. Ordered a diff outlet to have under water as do not like it above water level. Our turtle, Tucker, was very happy, he even waved at inlet right away lol. Should have got one of these sooner. Like that can, get rebuild kits and spare parts.

I purchased the 370GPH model for my 55 gallon freshwater tank, which is slightly overstocked. My current hang-on-back filter was not able to keep up with the tank and was taking too long to re-establish the bacterial "cycle." The 370GPH (which is rated for a 100-gallon tank) cleared up the water in about 2.5 days. But now I can see that I need to scrub the tank for algae on the tank walls (that was hidden earlier by the cloudy water). This particular model came with all of the filter media necessary; however, I chose to watch a few YouTube videos for best practices. Consequently, I bought some cut-to-fit filter media to increase the capture of solid waste, and some extra ceramic rings to place in the bottom of the filter body. The installation instructions are helpful in conjunction with YouTube videos. That said, I still managed to connect the hoses reversed, but discovered my error quickly. The manufacturer should label one of the ports as intake or outflow. Also, I suggest soaking the hoses in hot water for a few minutes: it makes the hoses more flexible and easier to handle. It still takes a bit of brute force, however, to get the hoses over the "barbs" at each end. Maybe a little petroleum jelly on the barbs would have helped...Final critique: the priming pump button didn't work too well for me. Ultimately, I had to fill the pump body with water, partially fill the hose with water, and then connect and pump furiously while running the filter motor. After a few minutes, I managed to get the filter system to prime. Alas, the pump is so quiet that I didn't notice that I had achieved priming until about 15 seconds later! In conclusion, this is an excellent value for a canister filter (mine replaced an old, old canister that died about a year ago). It may be an great way to purchase an oversized filter for your aquarium without breaking the bank--but check that the dimensions of the unit will fit your cabinet, as the filter isn't a perfect rectangular prism. And as others have said, take the time to look at some of the YouTube videos for the installation and operation of this canister filter; it will make your installation a breeze!

I don’t often write reviews but...If you are looking for a canister filter, do yourself a favor and get a sun sun/polar. They are the same just marketed under different names. Great for beginners or seasoned aquarists. You absolutely cannot beat the price and they perform just as well as the expensive brands. There is nothing wrong with getting a fluval but you can easily get three of these for the same (or less) price and have a back up if one goes down. What I love about these filters:*Huge baskets for media- I think there is just as much room if nothing more than in the fluvals*Easy to set up and clean! - to maintenance, I just turn it off, disconnect the hoses, open it up and lift out baskets. I simply rinse the entire basket with media in aquarium water and replace. (I do take out and rinse pre filters really good). Replace baskets and good to go!*Quiet! These things are super quiet. I have one in a cabinet and one on the floor. Both in living room.*comes with media- this is great if it’s your first filter or if you are adding a filter. You can also use existing media from your old filter if you want. For the price, you can’t beat what comes with it (although I do use other media in it as well)*comes with spray bar-not everyone loves them but you don’t have to buy it separate if you choose to use itWhat I don’t like:*no adjustable flow control- not a big deal for my 75 but would have been nice to ha e the option*hoses are super stiff- again, not a huge deal. Just run them under hot water to soften them up to attach them.Overall, this is a fantastic canister filter at a price that can’t be beat. Definitely recommend this to anyone wanting/needing a canister that isn’t hung up on fancy name brands.
