Park Tool BBT-19.2 Bottom Bracket Tool

Bicycle bottom brackets occasionally require removal for service, replacement, or upgrading. The Park Tool BBT-19.2 is used to remove and install 16-notch threaded external bearing bottom brackets with a 44mm outer diameter, including:

  • Shimano BB80, BB5700, XT BB70, BB51, and previous external bearing threaded cups
  • Campagnolo
  • SRAM/Truvativ GXP
  • Chris King
  • FSA MegaExo
  • Hope
  • Race Face X-type
  • Surly
  • Wheels Manufacturing
  • Fulcrum

The BBT-19.2 is made from high precision, hardened cromoly steel, and features a 3/8" drive fitting and 1" wrench flats, allowing the tool to be driven using a wrench, socket, or 3/8" drive torque wrench. Manufactured by Park Tool, the most trusted name in bicycle tools and repair equipment for over 50 years.

NOTE: due to the shallow engagement of their tool fittings, the BBT-19.2 is not recommended for 16-notch disc brake rotor lockrings. Instead use the Park Tool BBT-9 or BBT-69.2.

Park Tool: Your Guide to the World of Bottom Brackets

Confused by what bottom bracket tool you need? You're not alone. Between all the standards, installation methods, and tool fittings, it can all seem a bit overwhelming. Whatever you do need, Park Tool makes over 40 different tools to aid in the removal and installation of bottom brackets. Here's how to determine the correct tool for you, if you have an threaded or thread-together bottom bracket:

measure bottom bracket specifications standards

Count Splines/Notches

Remove the crank and inspect the bottom bracket shell for tool fittings, which can be notches or indentations on the outer perimeter, splines on the inside perimeter, or pin holes on the face. Count the number of tool fittings on the cup.

measure bottom bracket specifications standards

Measure Diameter

Next use a caliper to measure the diameter or width of the tool fittings. For external notches, simply measure the outer diameter of the bottom bracket cup or adapter. Take the measurement in millimeters.

Good solid fit onto my external bottom bracket. Not the cheapest but good quality. I have 4 bikes with this type of bb so I know I'll be saving money in the long run. Very pleased with this tool.

This fits correctly on my gxp bb. It is strong and does not strip out due to poor fit like some other cheaper tools. It is well worth the price.

These tools fit perfectly for my Praxis hub. Very sturdy. I was able to use by an adjustable wrench on one and a socket wrench on the other so that was great. Have to keep my bike now because I can't afford to buy more BB tools for a different make.

Used this to remove a SRAM bottom bracket and install a new Race Face BB. Fit the BBs well, with minimal slop. I love the socket wrench attachment. Just another nice Park product.

This thing LOOKS cheap in the pictures but this thing is solid metal. If you need a BB tool for 44mm BB, go with this one.

Park Tool states that the BBT-19.2 (this product) works with "Wheels" [Mfg] bottom brackets. Not so much. I have a Wheels Manufacturing BB-MTB-7 "THREADED MTB ABEC-3 BB FOR 24/22MM CRANKS (SRAM)" and this tool does not work. I also have the Park Tool BBT-69 that does not work. The only tool that I do have that works with the bottom bracket is the Park Tool BBT-9. My issue is that my mountain bike's swing arm is too close to the bottom bracket and therefore needs to be removed to use the BBT-9 tool. I want a "socket-like cup" tool that can just help me install/remove my bottom bracket without taking apart my suspension. Just be aware of what tool you think will do the job and be prepared to return it if necessary. This tool (BBT-19.2), the BBT-69, and the BBT-9 all work with the external SRAM GXP Bottom Brackets if that's any consolation.

I bought it for tightening the lockring on my 15mm through axle front wheel. Some lockrings (rear wheel or front wheel with 9mm quick release) may need a cassette lockring tool, so make sure you buy the right one(s). Here's what you'd need for the other size. They also make one for 12mm through axles, but I've used the one in this link for my 12mm through axle, and it works fine.
