I bought this lens specifically for photographing my son doing karate. Indoor sports photography is challenging. I keep the aperture on 1.8, the shutter speed about 400-600, & ISO on 800 & it works really well. BUT the auto focus really struggles. It can be annoying at times & it can cause me to miss shots at times. It's the best solution I've found so far, but it's still lacking a bit.

I purchased this lens directly from Adorama not realizing they sold it also here on Amazon. Some of the vendors sell grey market lenses. Those are lenses made and sold in other countries such as Asia, India and Africa.Since they're sold for much less in those countries Nikon USA will not honor the warranty.Contacted some of these vendors oand they said they would warranty them for one year.I am so glad I bought a u.s. warranty lens from an Amazon vendor. Because if you buy from one of Nikon recognize vendors you get an additional 4 years warranty for a total of 5 years!5 years versus one year warranty or perhaps no warranty. Just to save a few bucks isn't worth it.As for the lens performance absolutely overjoyed. Many years ago my film SLR shutter broke and back then did not have the resources at the time to buy a new camera and lenses. There's been a little bit of a learning curve switching to DSLR but it's a good learning curve. Things that I used to do in the dark room I can now do easily on the computer.Especially, if you get the Adorama bundle with the Corel software suite. The after shot Pro is basically Photoshop. All the tutorials I have seen on YouTube I have found those features in after shot.I have been using this lens with aperture priority and have had no issues with exposure. Its a great lens for taking portraits.I've been taking pictures of family members and Friends.I do have a backdrop frame and some basic lighting and barn door spotlight.Uploaded photo of my daughter and her husband, my children and their half sister all taken with this lens.Used the Corel after shot pro 3 to do the post editing from raw. What's also really great about buying a new fully warrantied lens is that it comes with a lens Hood and a soft case bag.The great part of buying a bundle from Adorama is that the lens also came with a UV and a CPL (circular polarizing Lens) filters. I always use a UV filter to protect the optics of the lens.I usually leave the CPL filter attached to the UV, so glare counseling is automatic to a point. Just switch the lens from on the camera and ready to shoot outdoors and in most situations. Though in some cases I may want to remove the CPL so I can get reflections. And of course I have a 52 mm nd2 to nd400 filter in my gear bag in case the scene is too bright or I really want to cut through this reflections and see into the water.

Great lens, the reason I knock off one star is that it struggles to autofocus in low light situations, and even tends to hunt in reasonably well lit indoor situations. This may be related to the fact that the Nikon D3400 only has 11 AF points. Image quality is superb. Don't waste your time with the included filters, grab some Breakthrough Photography filters and step up rings to fit your various lenses.

Haven’t played with it much but what I’ve seen so far is great. The bokha is great and the pics are sharp

This is a great step-up from the kit lens that came with the camera. Tack sharp, fast and accurate focus and the f/1.8 allows for a lot of creativity and flexibility if you haven't had anything faster than an f/4 or thereabouts.I was blown away at the difference with my D3400.Nice cleaning kit, but haven't tried the filters. Consider these all a bonus since the lens by itself is the same price.
