I bought this in 2013 when it was $29. It's unamplified so literally it's just a splitter of sorts. Either way, it still works great to control the speakers in various rooms in my house. So, now I'm seeing this being offered for $99 and I'm thinking, "did I get a collectable or something?" I can't believe they're pricing it that much. I get the whole supply inventory since COVID, but my goodness, are we really going to keep that up as an excuse? A 70-dollar (242%) markup in a decade seems way too much to me. At that price, I don't think this unit is worth it when you can just go pay little more for a 6-channel or more or even for an amplified version. The only thing I didn't like about this unit, but is common among many of these channel selector equipment, is the small terminal posts for the speaker wires. You only have maybe1/8" of total length of wiring to work with to fit into the screw-type terminals.

Solid built and works great, as listed.Yes, the speaker terminals are awful! Prior to ordering, I read the reviews about this issue and picked up some small banana plugs to use on the terminals. The terminals are so small and close together, that I had to bend the banana plugs out of the way of each unit in order to get them all to fit. Major design flaw. Other than that, good product.

This is a great product from Monoprice and does exactly what I need.Simple switch and easy to use.Controls 4 sets of speakers and is load balanced. The control knobs are very sturdy and it feels well made. The control knobs 'click' between each turn and controls the volume for each set of speakers very well. The unit comes with pre-labeled stickers to identify each control. Each channel comes with its own shut off for easy control with the press of a button. No complaints and would recommend this product.

-Totally satisfied with this product from Monoprice.-There is no crosstalk or crossfeed or bleeding, the sound is where it should be.-It seems to be all solid state, no wire. ( from what I can see through the side ventilation openings)-The look is ok, nothing fancy like metal dials and switches, but for the price it looks fine.-It has virtually the same width as my AVR (Yamaha 4066) so it fits well on top of it.-The volume control dials are stepping, offering 10 gradations - It works perfectly for me!-A/B sources can be manipulated the way I want (I've switched the front/rear outs for the tv speakers, I usually go to sleep listening to only the sound from the speakers near my bed, so I switch the AVR outs to 2ch Stereo so the front outs are near my head, lowering the loudness in the process, no sound coming out from the speakers near the TV).Cons:The loudness level went down a few dB, couldn't take a scientific approach to measure it but from the adjustment I made on the amp settings I would say approx. between 5 to 7dB. Nothing I bothered about too much. The Input/Output connectivity at the back SHOULD be changed to reflect the time era we're living in. Those little holes with vertical screws are a bit of a pain in the 'backtrain' to deal with. Fortunately, we can remove/separate an entire row of I/O from the main device and it makes the manipulation easier. I hope Monoprice will WAKE UP and decide it is time to step into the future (read the 21 Century), maybe charge a few bucks more, and use those GREAT banana 5 way I/O connectix!Beside those two little bummers, I STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS UNIT.It totally GIVES ME FULL CONTROL over the 8 speakers in my bedroom. (I know, I'm an excessive guy when it comes to sound :)P.S. French is my 1st language (Quebec/Canada) but English is my prefered one. So sorry if some parts of my review are not great and perfect phrasal contructions. I'm still learning! :)

You get what you pay for. Individual volume control is great, but poor wire connectors makes it useless. Connecting the wires was easy, but I wasted an hour troubleshooting why a set of speakers would not work on one of the channels and another would not put out voltage (sound). Ruling out out any possible issues with my equipment I came to the conclusion the speaker selector's connectors on the back of the unit are cheap POS's. You can tighten the screws down nice and tight but the piece that connects to the selector is too loose and the pins don't make a solid connection.

This actually surprised me - With it being passive and not really expensive, I guess I was expecting some loss of audio quality/distortion or serious power loss. But, I really didn't experience either issue. Then again, I have a pretty good Yamaha amplifier too. But I digress, I liked it and there were absolutely no issues. The only very minor issue was that some of the set screws were a little "sticky," not real smooth but still OK.

I just installed this speaker selector. I love the ability to run different volumes in different areas. If you're like me, my speakers go to a small den, a large living room, my garage and back patio. Each area needs a different volume. This fits the bill perfectly. The install is a little difficult as each input wire and speaker wire is attached via a small screw on the back side. I had to look to find my #0 phillips screwdriver. The location is hard to get to, as you need to balance the box on the front knobs while inserting the wires and tightening the screws. The good news you only need to do it once.BTW, the directions are kind of limited, but the product is easy to figure out. That said, please note that each screw is pre-tightened (to prevent loss), so you will need to start by loosening each one.

This was the second one they sent. The first one had a stripped screw on the terminal where the wires connect. Sent it back and they sent me another one that was even worse. only half the channels worked. If I connected the wires directly, the sound from the speakers was fine. When running through the box, only half the channels worked. Not only that but the box it came in was ripped at the point where it opens. Clearly someone tried to open it before I received it. Makes me wonder if they sent me someone else's return. What a piece of junk!

Currently only using 2 of the four zones. Works fine and I don't notice any reduction of sound quality. I think it's a bit wider than it needs to be, which isn't a problem if you've got the space but, with all that room on the back, you'd think they could have spread the +/- and R/L terminals a bit farther apart. They're really tight. When they say strip 1/4" of wire for those terminals, they really mean it as a maximum. Any longer and the exposed copper on the wire is very close to its neighbour. Only other minor quibbles are the fact that the volume controls are stepped so fine adjustments aren't possible and that whoever assembled the unit didn't install the knobs oriented the same way, which means the different zone controls don't visibly align at any given volume.

I am a professional of some notoriety in the audio industry worldwide, so it says something if I'm impressed with an item. I really do like this loudspeaker selector switch --- so much that I bought another one. The build quality is excellent and the price is right. I do think that even with only one set of speakers playing, the volume through this box is a bit reduced, but the audio quality itself seems quite good. One of the rotary volume controls on mine is a bit iffy; it wants to turn past zero, so I have to baby it. Otherwise, I have nothing but praise for this item and would highly recommend it.

I think mono price speaker selectors are great. The only reason I wanted to stop and review this is to add the 8ohm minimum deal. Most of these units from the various manufacturers keep the ohm load on the amplifier at a 4 ohm minimum. Receivers are more and more coming out with a 6 ohm minimum tolerance. If you use a speaker selector the keeps the load at 4 ohm with one, they'll shut off or over heat. These keep the load at 8 ohms, which will work with most ANY amp so you know your safe.Other than that, its a solid unit and works great.
