This rack arrived in a torn and taped box without a manual, no missing hardware, but the wrong kind of hardware altogether. It was easy to find the manual online on the Malone auto racks website. I reached out by phone directly to the company, talked to a real person who was really helpful, and we followed with a couple of email exchanges. The proper hardware arrived in no time by mail. Excellent customer service, the best I have had in a long time. The rack works well for putting our gear up and off the ground for the winter season, it is simple to assemble and sturdy. Thank you!

For years I’ve been debating purchasing a kayak rack for my kayaks and stand up paddleboard. Finally pulled the trigger on this one, and it was a great choice. Pretty easy to put together—with two people took about 30 minutes, maybe some extra to adjust the placement of the holders. I was glad that these are now a nice neutral grey and not a bright orange red so they blend better with the environment. There is lots of room to adjust for your specific use — I changed the location of the hooks a few times to fit my 5 kayaks and stand-up paddleboard. It’s very sturdy and well made. Powder coated feel, and I am not worried about rust. Very happy about this purchase - wish I had bought one years ago!

I am using this to store Kayaks and Paddleboards and can be outside in summer and inside in winter because it is easy to move and does not take up a lot of room.

Living near the water is great and right away we brought a couple of sit on kayaks (wider ones from REI for stability), a hybrid SUP/Kayak and a standard SUP. For years we stored them under tapes on some gravel in the backyard behind the deck, protected from the sun but with the weather and surrounding trees, they were all getting dirty and covered in leaves and pooling water so I finally decided to get a storage rack system. After doing a lot of research on the web and amazon reviews, I decided to get the 6 Kayak Storage racks from Malone. Don’t regret it at all!The shipment came as promised about a week later but via FedEx all the way from Maine. Instructions were very clear but everyone should know that the split washers should be flush with the heads of the bolts but better fastening. I had a couple of issues with one of the levelers (round footings) not screwing all the way in but they sent replacements overnight by Fedex. One of the upright support drill holes was off by a couple millimeters and they fedex that out the same time again right away! Very impressed. Customer service was great over the phone and by email. Tech support troubleshooted quickly and were very responsive. Construction is durable and high quality. Should last a long time! No regrets. Would purchase from them again! Thank you!

Malone FS 6 kayak rack.More than 4 stars but less than 5, rounded up.• Very heavy and sturdy, this rack can hold more than 4 suspended kayaks or whatever in a flat position, although it only comes with 4 cantilevered pairs. (Two sit on the frame.)However, the rack is tall and of course it gets increasingly difficult to get heavy items up to the top of the rack, which is quite tall. Upper levels are good for smaller boats and paddle boards.• If you tilt kayaks at an angle, as the arms are shaped, boats in a more vertical position take up more space.However, I think the shape of the arms is a poor aspect of the design. The arms would be better shaped to allow boats to sit flat more naturally. It takes more work to put them in at an angle than to have them flat.• Another issue is the padding of the arms. While some may find this a nice touch, the rubber is grippy and makes it difficult to slide a kayak onto the rack. If you have a fiberglass kayak (bully for you), you will probably appreciate the rubber padding. However I rather be able to get the boat on the rack with less effort.• Meanwhile the soft foam padding blocks are not very useful. They won’t stay in place as you load the boat. You need to put them in place after. If scratching was a concern, that is too late. The bottom frame blocks should be tougher and lock into place better.• The bolts and parts are conveniently organized, but assembly instructions are okay, not great. You’ll need a rachet wrench and about 2 hours.

Great Rack. Reasonably affordable. Was straightforward to assemble, although one reviewer's suggestion that it took 30 minutes while drinking beer seemed a little optimistic especially if you are doing it your self...it took me 15-20 minutes alone to open boxes, take parts inventory , clear enough space to assemble, figure out what tools I needed (rachet and box wrench), read through directions , etc . I also installed optional casters (which I really recommend..you'll need 2 kits for 6 rack system). First time through I would budget 1-3 hours depending on ability. If I was to do another, might get close to 30 minutes.As to another reviewers comments about color directions being helpful...very true, although with black and white, you can see shade diff between black and red bars.

Overall the rack is great. But the directions to set up the rack were the worst. The ones the send you in the box come in black and white so you can't tell if its a red or black rod. So it would have been helpful to have the directions in color. Also for the directions to be more specific and in order of how to actually set up the rack

This item ships in 2 boxes, and I only received one. When I FINALLY was able to contact Amazon, they were not able to direct me to the Amazon warehouse because they said they are not able to contact them. They offered me a packaging slip to send the item back and reorder. I informed them that I got this as a sale price, and I didn't want to reorder, I want the missing box sent. They are very difficulty to work with and were not helpful to me, the customer. I am very disappointed!
