I am already familiar with Susheela Raman I have 3 other Cd's by her and this one is just as good as the rest, she has an enchanting voice and I love her mixing of eastern and western styles in her music and singing.

I was looking for an album to fit the comforts of home. though i am not of the singers language; i find her voice angelic and the music hypnotic. I am at outdoors type of person and this music completes my gardening experience.

the moment you start putting music into little boxes, you know that you are in for a disaster with this album. this is not hindustani music. nor is it carnatic. a catchall phrase like 'world music' is perhaps too dubious to deserve comment.if, however, one doesn't get burdened by the weight of boundaries, this album offers a great and varied collection of songs. the lady's pipes are in good order, the instrumentation is interesting, it is certainly ecletic... a couple of my friends more well versed in the tongues she was singing in blanched at the accents, but what the heck, bob marley's rich patois wasn't really queens english.'save me ' is a great track. 'amba' is mind blowing. 'sakhi maro' is one song for which i would have bought the entire cd.looks like i got a good bargain.sunu charles

This is really a fabulous album, and has become a real unexpected favorite in my collection. While the title track is catchy and quirky, the real meat of the album lies within. I especially love "Bliss" and "Dhamavati." This music is fusion in the best sense - a blend of worldwide musical influence and truly contemporary approach to border-crossing art. I HIGHLY recommend this album to the aesthetically curious.

Raman's "Love Trap" intrigued me, for its promise of intercultural sound weavings. But when it arrived, I discovered its mediocrity. It's just cheap music, reminiscent of the worst of 1970s pop music: light, weak, and empty. Right from the first track, "Love Trap," you know you're in for a frivilous album, with trite background vocals "Love Trap, Love Trap, oooh, Love Trap, Love Trap, ooooh," and tin-plated lyrics.

If world music is all about bringing people from different nations close and making them understand the beautiful side of each others music culture then it's no coincidence that Susheela Raman is one of it's stand out artists right now . The Anglo-Indian gifted lady mixes creatively various elements of the Indian , Tamil and wider western and eastern music tradition and manages to deliver an exotic , dazzling offering . First cd single " Love Trap " with it's poisonous charms can seduce a priest while " Sarasa " is as tender and sensual as a melody could ever be . What's most suprising though about Raman is that despite her young age she delivers such rich perfomances on songs like the slow and hypnotic " Amba " . Clearly she's here to stay and has all the wit and talent in order to do so .

I heard this CD playing while I was eating in a restaurant-it went well with my meal! It's a pleasant mix of traditional Indian songs and material co-written by Raman. It's a mixed bag and I find some of the songs a little cheesy-actually it's the ones sung in English that are the worst offenders! When sung in an Indian-subcontinental language they just sound so much more convincing! There are a couple of great tracks that I love. 'Sakhi Maro' is just a lovely song with a delightful acoustic guitar and 'ethnic' lute-type instrument. Raman's singing can be excellent although at times it's overly 'breathy' and seems to come from the back of her throat-which can be annoying! I also like 'Ye meera divanapan hai' but mainly because it reminds me of my Mother and Father playing this song when I was a child...............

I found this CD a most amazing walk into the far-away-lands I never knew existed. I especially like the Title song. It blends interesting rhythms and beautiful voice inflections. I stronly recommend this CD. I enjoy it the more I listen to it.
