  • Coarse Red Hone: (120 grit) for edge reconditioning
  • Medium Green Hone: (280 grit) for sharpening and less frequent touch-ups
  • Fine Blue Hone: (600 grit) for most frequent touch-ups to keep your blade paper-slicing sharp

Deluxe Sharpener in Use

The Clamp

The knife clamp included in the system holds the knife steady, and the angle guide is static and firm so that the user can achieve the desired angle with every stroke of the sharpener. The sharpener is designed to be held in the hand or used with one of our universal stands, like the Pedestal Mount, Universal Mount, or Super "C" Clamp mount, which ensures it will fit into everyone's workshop.

Getting Started

For blades under 7":

Position the clamp in the middle of the blade.

After sharpening, flip the clamp (and blade) over and repeat the sharpening process on the unsharpened side.

For blades over 7": Choose where to start sharpening and place the clamp two finger widths away from that spot. For example, if you start at the tip, place the clamp two finger widths from the tip.

Secure the blade in the clamp. Place your fingers along both sides of the clamp to define your target sharpening zone. Avoid sharpening outside this zone to maintain the correct angle.

Sharpen within the target zone. Then, flip the clamp (and knife) over and sharpen the other side.

After sharpening the first zone on both sides, place the clamp two finger widths from the edge of the sharpened area. Sharpen the new zone using the same method and number of strokes. This ensures a continuous sharp edge with minimal gaps or overlaps.

Remember!

For the best results, move the hone diagonally forward toward the guide hole in the clamp, covering a small section of the blade with each stroke. Use the full length of the hone on every pass.

Always sharpen into the blade. Sharpening along the length or away from the blade can damage both the blade and the hone.

Keep your strokes consistent across each target zone to ensure a uniformly sharpened blade.

Pro-tip!

With extended use, metal shavings will accumulate, making the surface feel smoother. To clean this, apply a few drops of Nathan's Natural Honing Oil to the area and spread it with your finger. After a minute, wipe off the lifted shavings with a lint-free cloth. Repeat as needed for heavy build-up.

What's the best angle?

30° Angle:

The 30° Angle is an excellent angle for knives that see a lot of heavy use. This could include cutting cardboard, wire, or carpets.

25° Angle:

The 25° angle is the recommended angle for most knives that need a durable, sharp edge. This angle is ideal for hunting and outdoor knives.

20° Angle:

The 20° angle provides an excellent edge for kitchen cutlery and slicing knives. It is a commonly used angle for higher quality blades, and possibly the most often used.

17° Angle:

The 17° angle should be used when an extremely sharp but delicate edge is needed. This angle is perfect for razor blades, scalpels, filet and similar tools.

I love using this sharpening kit to sharpen all of my larger knives. It's very easy to get a very sharp edge on larger knives. Does not work well with smaller knives like pocket knives and some smaller paring knives.

Leider muss man die Tischklemme zusätzlich kaufen. Gehört eigentlich dazu. Oder ich Spann das ganze dann in einen Schraubstock 😅😎

This sharpening system works well enough, but it takes a lot of time to put a sharp edge on a knife. You can watch any positive review on YouTube to see enough to know that you are probably not going to want to use it.Using the optional clamp to hold everything in position, you select the coarsest stone you think necessary and after mounting your knife properly, you sharpen 1 1/2 inches of one side of the knife, move along the edge and sharpen the next 1 1/2 inches of the knife and do this along the length of the knife. Then you flip the knife over and do the same along the other side of the knife. This takes at least 15 minutes or so.You then select the next less coarse stone and repeat the process with at least 3 more stones, followed by the optional leather strop. So, one knife takes about an hour, but you don't see this in the videos. They skip over this or speed up the video.Hopefully, you can maintain your knives' edge with a steel, so that this doesn't have to be done more than once per month, but most of us don't take the time to hone our knives every time we use them. So, yes this system works, but it isn't going to be a user-friendly experience. The entire collection of stones, strop and clamp is a bit less than $100.The basic Worksharp MK2 would probably be best for most people. It isn't ideal, but it produces a very sharp edge in a fraction of the time this system requires.

After using the kit, I found that what is needed is some kind of support that makes the system easier to use.On E T S Y, I found UnicornNuggets has the perfect handle/ clamp for this. Unlike Lansky branded gear, this provides portability and better ergonomics.Lansky is the best!

This is my second Lansky sharpening kit. The first lasted about 5 years. I sharpen kitchen knives frequently and the edge (sharpness) is great. The first time you use this on old dull knives it takes a bit to remove enough metal to get them into good shape. But after the initial sharpening maintaining the edge is very easy and fast. Just be sure to tell your significant other that you have sharpend the knives or they might be expecting them to be dull...

This product was recommended by a friend as an easy way to sharpen knives to a very sharp and effective sharpness. I have a well used pocket knife that has gone through the ringer. This kit did a good job putting a new edge on it but I wish it got it sharper. It was very sharp but no where near as sharp as it was when I purchased the knife. Would highly recommend as it was easy to use and did make the knife sharper than it was.

This thing makes sharpening knives much easier. I am no expert and have never had a reason to be. This makes it much easier for me to sharpen. My only wish is that there were a few more choices of angles. There are (as you can see in the product images) 4 angles to sharpen your blade: 17, 20,25 & 30. I really bought this for my SpyderCo (but sold my wife on sharpening her kitchen knives lol but that can be difficult as it is not really meant for a large knife.)The SpyderCo, as far as I can tell after I bought this (should have learned more first), is that it needs to be sharpened at a 40° angle.Despite my lack of knowledge this is an excellent product, it makes it easier to do with little skill, and I am glad I have it.I would recommend looking into the mounting bracket for this. It is not necessary, but if you have a workbench with space to spare you could even screw the bracket down for more stability. For example:https://www.amazon.com/Lansky-Sharpeners-LANLM007-Pedestal-Sharpener/dp/B002HZRBYE/ref=pd_bxgy_sccl_2/136-9981358-1708914?pd_rd_w=hjji9&content-id=amzn1.sym.21b577c4-6435-4581-8b53-49da41e27328&pf_rd_p=21b577c4-6435-4581-8b53-49da41e27328&pf_rd_r=ET55N8WEA4X8V387FEMF&pd_rd_wg=UqjJ9&pd_rd_r=ce1414eb-4a5b-41cc-8f2c-51dc3be98500&pd_rd_i=B002HZRBYE&psc=1

There is a small learning curve to it. But it creates great results. It works better to set the thumb screw and tighten down the other screw with a Philipps Screwdriver in order to keep the knife from slipping out.

Package was already opened and just tapped together, one of the stones had already been used, and there was a bolt broken off in the clamp.. I don’t really want to go through the hassle of returning it so I’ll try to make it work but not impressed that I paid full price for a damaged and used item.Edit: ended up drilling out the bolt and rethreading it, so I can use it now. It’s able to get knives quite sharp and it’s a good design.

I took a very dull knife, one that was almost like a butter knife, and sharpened it back to a respectable level in about 15 minutes the first time I used this. Clearly one needs to practice a little bit with this sharpener in order to bring up the best edge. But anyone can use this right out of the box. Only complaint is the case. Mine would not latch shut no matter how hard I tried. I think the plastic injection mold they are using is getting worn out?! Also they sell a stand for this sharpener. I would liked to have had the option of buying a set that included that stand, as it would make sharpening knives much easier.
