- #963 in Camera Lens Polarizing Filters
Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarised so polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. CIRCULAR PL filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarising filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.

Hoya filters
HOYA Corporation has diversified its operations by capitalizing on the potential of optoelectronic technologies since its establishment in 1941 as Japan's first specialty manufacturer of optical glass. Today, Hoya is active in four fields of business: Information Technology business makes mask blanks and photomasks for semiconductor devices and liquid crystal panels, optical lenses, and glass memory disks for hard disk drives. The Eye Care provides eyeglasses and operates contact lenses retail shops, as well as makes intraocular lenses for cataract surgery. The Life Care Business provides endoscopic system. The Imaging System produces SLR/compact digital cameras and interchangeable lenses as well as digital camera lens module and microlens.
The Production Process of HOYA Filters
Each Hoya filter is the result of research, know-how and complete precision facilities backed by full quality control.
Before production starts, controls are first programmed into a computer. Then the finest materials are carefully mixed by an automatic V-blender for absolute uniformity. After being melted with highly sophisticated equipment, this material is then precision molded with automatic direct pressing equipment. The pressed blanks are next slowly and continuously cooled to remove strain, and are then polished by high-speed, double-surface polishing machines that assure precise surface quality and perfect flatness.
Next is the coating process which improves the filter light transmission ability. And the transmission characteristics are checked by Spectro-Photometer, after which an ultrasonic cleaner removes all foreign matter from the surfaces. Only after passing all of Hoya's quality tests are the filters assembled, finished and made ready for shipment to customers throughout the world.

not cheap but so much better than other brands. If you have good glass(lenses), you do not want to ruin the image quality by adding low grade filters... a CPL filter is a must for shooting forests, remove haze, get more contrast on skies and remove glare on water.I use this filter size on two lenses (Samyang 12mm and Samsung NX 18-200mm).Hoya is a reliable brand for filters as their related brand Tokina is for lenses. The Pro1 Digital is not their top of the line breed but it does the job without going even higher in prices that can reach similar values as some lenses (something I found ridiculous - so this is my max to pay for filters).I recommend you to store your filters not in pockets, bags, cases or any alike. Instead stack them using metal caps. I use a 37mm female cap and a 72 male cap, with some step-up metal adapters in between to hols many filters. This way I save space, and I can access all filters at anytime knowing they are clean and well protected inside. Browse in Amazon and you will find Fotasy, JJC and others selling these caps for about 7 USD.kind regards!

***Good quality filter - Good UV filter that is balanced well by not being too much and being enough to eliminate UV without affecting color and sharpness to an unwanted degree. It looks dark but surprisingly isn't, recommended if taking a lot of outdoor shots. I tested it indoors as well and was surprised to find that I preferred the filter on if natural light is present (through window).

I use this filter for taking pictures on clear days outside. Makes the skies look bluer and has good contrast. Good enough for the non-pro photographer.

I've been buying Hoya polarizers for years and always been happy. The Pro1 is a really good polarizer as its fairly thin and works well with wide angle lenses (I use it with my Panasonic 8-18/2.8-4 Lens). It is also less dark than traditional polarizers, letting more light in. Optical quality is very high, and minimal flaring if any. I'm very happy with this product.

I purchased this filter based on reviews and photography blogs rating it highly. This filter has a premium build, finish and feel. Comes in a compact plastic case and a foam cushion to rest it when not in use. Very thin design (which I like) but requires attention in order to not smudge it with the fingers while attaching to the lens. Lens cover doesn't seal when the filter is on. This minimal hassle has me thinking of the landscape and potential shot and using the filter (unattached) before deciding if I want to use and go through placing on the lens. It fits my Nikkor 18-55 nicely, stays in place with extensive use and no problem rotating to obtain polarizing effect. I took this filter with my D3300 on a recent trip to Greece and was amazed at the difference this circular pl makes with the landscape shots. Reduces glare, improves color saturation and also reduces reflections in glass and water. Very good value.

I've used this filter for a few months during vacations and around town. This Hoya PRO1 Digital Circular Polarizer is a well-designed, solidly-built filter that delivers beautiful results, provided you understand how best to use it.Because this is my first circular polarizer filter, I can't compare it to other manufacturers' CPs or to Hoya's lower tier CP's. However, judging from others' glowing reviews, I feel safe saying the Hoya PRO1 Digital CP is at the very top of the heap. If you want a CP, this is the one to get. From a physical standpoint, it mounts easily to my lens without binding and rotates smoothly in both directions. It has a nicely knurled edge on the fixed ring (the one screwed to your lens), which makes it easy to remove when you're done with it. The optics seem perfect with no flaring, reflections or vignetting.I mentioned needing to understand how to use a CP, and this is what I'm referring to. You can't just screw this onto your lens and expect to automatically see huge improvements to your images. For outdoors shots, the position of the Sun relative to your shooting angle makes all the difference in whether this filter will help you or not. My experience supports articles stating the Sun should ideally be at a 90 degree angle to your shooting direction (off to your side) for maximum CP benefit. If you pan with your camera, you'll see the sky color gradually deepen beautifully as your shooting angle approaches 90 degrees from the Sun and gradually return to "normal" (i.e., as if there was no CP) as you turn directly towards or away from the Sun. With a proper shooting angle, clouds contrast beautifully against the sky, reflections off glass disappear and overall glare is greatly diminished. If you're shopping for a CP, you can feel confident purchasing this Hoya PRO1 Digital Circular Polarizer.

For the price range it does what needs to do very well. It has quality Japanese construction with no imperfections and I have had no problems using it in the last 18 months and I use it constantly (also taking it on and off as required). Keeping it clean was not a problem. It cuts glare (e.g., allows taking pictures of fish in ponds) and makes the sky more pronounced. The low profile minimizes vignette, but with my 18-200mm and the way I use it, it still has a little at 18. My problem is that I am lazy and have a UV filter that I leave on all the time, so the Polarizer is stacked on top. The last bit can be removed by not stacking but I don't like the futzing, so I don't shoot at 18 or remove in post production. I noticed no flares or other artifacts in the photos that were not directly into the sun (street lights didn't seem to show it). Double the price and you will get the last 10% in performance and quality, but I am very satisfied with quality and performance of this product so it gets a 5 (at twice the price it would get a 4 because it wouldn't take out the trash or get me a latte).

I chose this filter because of good experience with Hoya products and I wanted a filter that was coated, reasonable quality and at an affordable price.I've used the filter on several hundred images now and it has met all of my expectations. The build quality is very good, it rotates easily, but not loose. The filter provided the necessary polarization without any additional, unwanted affects. It's easy to recommend.
