The first three of these out of the packaging all were defective. They were passing the full input voltage (12v) through the "output" pin, instead of the specified three volts. Yes, I read the datasheet and verified that the pinout marked on the circuit board was both correct and correctly wired.Fortunately I was testing them on the bench before hooking them up to anything sensitive--the 3v circuit I planned to power with these would have been instantly fried. With this rate of failure, I'm not going to bother opening the other handful... even if they worked at first, I don't think I'd be willing to trust they'd last or not catastrophically fail because of the obviously poor quality control.

This is described in the ad as a buck regulator. Looking at the mfg. data sheet, this is untrue. This is a linear 3-pin regulator, not a buck regulator. If you look at the picture you will not see a coil, needed for a buck regulator. That being said, these little guys work great. I have a project using an Esp32S3 , display and an I2S DAC amplifier. The 3.3v regulator was not up to the challenge. Audio output would sometimes cause a reset. I put the regulator between the dev boards 5v line and the audio boards 3.3v input. Problem solved.

This is the same linear voltage regulator that is used on the NodeMCU board to power the ESP8266 with 3.3V from Vin. I use this little board to power electronics that need to communicate with the ESP8266 at 3.3V if they are placed in another enclosure far apart or if the current requirements are too high. The PCB construction is sturdy and the form factor is small enough. The on-board LED gives good feedback so you know when the unit is on, but you may want to remove it if you're running off a battery and want to save power.

These worked perfectly to drop 5v to 3.3v. I suspect the negative reviewer did not hook it up properly. The pinout is different from a standard 78xx TO-220 package LDO. Left to right on the side with the LED and pins, the pinout is Vin, Vout, Gnd.

used this to covert 5v-3.3v for my weather radio than ran on AAA batteries. used a spare usb cut ends attach this step down and connected to radio terminals. was able to fit the module inside the battery case.
