Nice compact microwave oven. We looked; only one we found that's small and can be installed under cabinet.Problem: Paint peeling badly inside the cavity after two years of not-so-heavy use. Concerned that flaking paint might fall into food, we are now looking for a replacement.GE service is no help: They will make a service call for $100 plus parts and labor. I just know it will be "un-repairable."If you are buying one of these, it might be an item for the extended warranty option, expensive as these usually are.

The microwave was wrapped wonderfully and looks great. There is a small problem with the light staying on even when the appliance is not in use and the top of the door must be pushed down slightly to turn off the light. Rather that return the product, we are just learning to press down on the door to extinguish the light. This was not a problem that had anything to do with Amazon, it came this way from the manufacturer.

I finally had to replace my GE Spacemaker microwave after over ten years of good service. The replacement lasted only about two months before it stopped working. I read the instruction booklet and verified that it was fully warranted for both parts and service. But the warranty repair or replacement is free of cost only if you bring it in to a GE service center. When I called GE they told me they don't have any service centers, but they could send a service rep out to my house for a $100 charge. What kind of warranty is that?Fortunately I bought it from Amazon and they very politely offered to take it back, without shipping charges. I told them I had already thrown out the box and packing materials. They expedited delivery of a new one so I'd have the new box to return the defective one in. Not only that, I was able to save a few dollars since they refunded the full purchase price of $230 and the price had since been reduced to $205. Now that's what I call customer service!If you plan to use the original mounting kit for your replacement micro you will note that the the holes for the mounting screws don't quite line up. I solved the problem by drilling out the mounting bracket holes slightly larger. That solved the problem, although it still took some jiggling around to line up the bracket holes with the screw holes in the microwave. However, it does appear to hold the unit to the shelf pretty solidly.Now I just hope the the new microwave lasts for at least a few years this time.

You want a microwave oven to be inexpensive, attractive, functional, and durable. You also want it to fit, which is why you've considered the smallish GE Spacemaker II. Me too. So far, it satisfies my criteria. Strangely, the same model in black has a lower rating (due apparently to longevity issues) and a lower price tag. One would think the color has nothing to do with durability, but I decided to not take my chances because returning items is not a good use of my time. The ability to stop the turntable is a nice feature, and I use the "Add 30 seconds" button for almost everything.

First, you can buy a $49.00 one like I have in the work van that does everything this one does. Second, Never make the mistake of remodeling your kitchen with a built-in micro. This unit replaced the same unit that was only 5years old, I know there is no way the the kitchen unit takes the abuse of the van unit, kitchen unit wife and me, van unit 16 different guys in the last 6years! Save your MONEY

Product Dimensions: 25.4 x 29.9 x 46.9 inches ; 29 pounds. This needs to be updated. Certainly this microwave is not four feet.

It arrived in just three days - all the way to Alaska, but I see the price is now almost $40 more than what I paid for it. Installed it the next day with screws obtained locally, three days before the separate install kit arrived in the mail, so ended up sending that rather overpriced kit back. Had to cut the plug off (and later attach a new one) to pass the cord through the hole in the cabinet bottom to the outlet inside the cabinet, but otherwise no problems. I got this one because there was not enough space between the top of my range and the bottom of a regular over the range micro, the kind with an exhaust fan on the bottom. The instruction book advises against installing it over the range because of the heat rising up from the range top, but I have seen units installed this way with no apparent problems. Fortunately, I had space to hang it over a countertop so that's where I put it. Looks good and have been using it everyday. To sum it up, it's perfect for small spaces but get your own parts instead of buying the install kit.

The turntable cooks the food evenly, the ding is loud, my preschoolers can operate it, except for removing hot food of course (in case Child Protective Services is watching).
