This is a good-quality stein-shaped mug that’s of course god for more than just beer — it’s equality convenient for keeping any beverage cold, from iced tea to soda or water. Actually, as with most insulated cups, it’ll actually keep things cold for the most impressive amount of time if you include ice in the mug — something you wouldn’t typically do with beer, but, for instance, if you fill the big with ice and then poor water, tea, or coffee over the ice, the insulation will keep it cold for hours. Whereas with an in-iced drink, the coldness will wear off much more quickly — but it’ll still keep your beverage cooler than an in-insulated cup would, of course. As other reviews have mentioned, the wide base makes this mug incompatible with most cup-holders in cars or on patio chairs — but this is a typical beer-stein mug shape, so that’s expected. The upside is the wide base makes the mug very stable on any flat surface, so it won’t easily tip over. Also as some other reviews have mentioned, it’s surprising that the current price is almost the same as what some better-known brands (like Stanley) are charging for very similar mugs — I think it’s still a pretty good deal, as Frost Buddy is a decent brand as well, and the quality of the mug seems as good (or nearly as good) as the bigger brands… But I expect it’ll need go on sale at some point to be more competitive.I’m getting one of these mugs for my dad, as he thinks it looks great, and he loves to have a good cold beer when he’s barbecuing on the backyard patio in the summer.I wonder if it’d also work for keeping hot coffee and tea warm in the winter — I don’t see why not, the insulation should work for hot drinks as well, I’d think, and this could be a great coffee mug if there’s no danger of heat causing damage to the mug. I don’t see anything in the product description advocating for or against using this for hot beverages.I like the metal rim around the top of the mug — it makes for a more pleasant feel when drinking than some mugs that use a ceramic or more platicky type layer all the way to the top. The metal ring reminds me of some of my favorite camping mugs from the past.I just wish this mug came with an optional lid, with a drinking/straw-spout type area — that would help keep the drink colder for even longer, and would also help to keep bugs/flies out of your drink when outdoors.

Nice texture and color, feels light but solid. Size is plenty big enough to hold a large poor. Handle is screwed on vs being a one-piece design like I've seen on some other mugs. I don't think it will effect the durability, but will keep an eye on the screws. I really like the tapered design and the bump-out at the bottom, this should be impossible to tip over for all but the most egregious party fouls.I tested out it's performance by putting a pint of cold water from the fridge into both this mug and one of my other glass mugs of similar size. With both mugs being at room temperature and the water starting at around 45°F, after one hour sitting on the counter, the water in the Frost Buddy was only at about 48°, while the water in the glass mug was up to 62°. This is with the house being relatively cool, so on a hot day outside should have quite good insulating performance.

This stein has nearly the same construction as the double walled water bottle that I have. The one difference being that the exterior of the stein seems to be powder coated instead of wrapped in a silicone layer. There is ample room to pour two cold 12 oz beverages and to keep them cold for quite a while. I had some acrylic glass with some frozen gel in my freezer, that I was happy to replace as this is that much more stylish, practical, and near indestructible. I love the flared bottom to avoid being tipped over. It is certain to last a lifetime, given few parts and a stainless steel body.Update - These steins DO hold 24 oz, but with not much room to spare. The last photo is of sparkling water, which is all the way to the top. If pouring something with a foamy head (root beer or beer), I would not be able to get the contents of both cans in the stein. Still good.

This is such a great mug: love the charcoal color, plus it has a substantial feel to it with a wider base and yet it isn't heavy to hold. We both like to have water in a mug available all day. Amazing that the ice put in the mug stayed solid all day, keeping the water cool even when taking the mug outside on the deck in the sun (well, we live in a cool coastal climate). This is so much better than the ugly, scratched, plastic water glass my husband refused to part with -- until now. I'm going to have to buy one for myself! This would make a great gift for anyone.Happy husband = happy wife= happy life.

Got this mug as my Hubbie is an OSU fan - so the red color tempted me.Did a cold water test - filling about a fourth full of cold water. No ice and with no lid and not being full, I expected the water to turn lukewarm pretty quickly. But I was happily disappointed! The water remained just as cold as when I poured it in - even an hour and a half later! Stayed cold for several hours after. (I gave up waiting and just drank the water.)We are not beer drinkers, but like our root beer - which was the intent for this mug. Root beer with ice stayed super chilled indefinitely (couldnt measure the time out as I’d drink the root beer before it ever had a chance to warm up). Even outside in hot summer weather.Size is perfect (easily holds 20 ounces without ice) and handle fits any sized hand. Lightweight to hold. No metallic taste.Downside - no lid. I know you wouldn’t really want a lid with beer or root beer but would make this mug much more versatile for travel and other uses. Also, though the wide base offers stability, it prevents it from fitting in standard cup holders. Not an issue if drinking beer - no drinking and driving. But a little inconvenient in camping chairs etc.Overall, this mug does keep your beverage chilled which is its intent. So four stars on its function. But had to take one star off for lack of versatility with no lid and won’t work in chair cup holders etc. If that’s not an issue for you - I’d certainly recommend this mug.
