I purchased this lens hood for my Canon 55-250MM IS II lens and the C-EW 60C for my 18-55MM IS II lens. Both of these lens hoods are dedicated to their respective lens' as per Canon, at a fraction of the price! OEM products are typically more expensive, especially Canon products. I am not bashing Canon ( too much ), but they always want to charge you a premium, especially for accessories... They are made just as the Canon lens hoods are, of high-impact plastic and are reinforced with other materials. I was tempted to buy all metal lens hoods made of aluminum, but after much research on the internet; decided to go with plastic. The "feel" of metal was tempting, but these plastic models are much more protective and practical. In my research, I found that the metal lens hoods actually "transfer" any impact onto the lens. Potentially causing damage to the lens ring, or worse; to the lens itself. These reinforced, plastic models actually "absorb" any impact or hit, and deflect it away from the lens... Minimizing any potential damage from the inevitable "hit". They are bayonet vs. screw-on mounted, which makes it easy to put them on or off. Just a quick twist in either direction, and your set. I leave them on always, though. I want them there at all times for the protection they offer. An added bonus of the bayonet mount is that they are reversible on the lens for easy storage, especially the one for the 55-250MM lens. It's bigger and longer, and does take up less precious space in my camera bag when reversed... Highly recommended, and very satisfied so far with all of the products I've purchased from Fotodiox...

I was looking for a lens hood for my Canon telephoto lens to help reduced the amount of sun shining on my lens when I'm taking photos outdoors. After seeing several reviews on this lens hood, I decided to go with it and I'm more than happy that I decided to get it. First I went to my local big box to store to get one, but they either didn't have them in stock or they were trying to charge too much for the lens. I have a Canon DSLR camera and always try to buy the products brought brand to keep with continuity (it's just the way I am with accessories), but many times they are just not reasonably price or worth the price. One thing for sure is that this product is as good as a Canon branded lens hood for the price. When you realize they both are plastic...one question you might actually ask yourself is why such price difference? Another thing about this lens hood is that you can also keep the Fotodiox Dedicated Bayonet lens hood on the lens w/o the need to take it completely off. All you have to do is...1) twist it off from the lens when you are finish taking photos and ready to store it...2) reverse it...3) put it back over the lens in the opposite position and...4) twist again for a secure fit. No need to store it somewhere else separatley. This will save you lots storage in your camera bag if you have several other lens hoods. It fits over my 58m UV lens filter...which is also another hugh plus:)! It works well with my Canon 55-250 & 70-300mm lens. I realize that this might not be for everyone. I find it hard to not see why for the price and quality? I can tell already that this lens hood is going to fill my photography needs for many years to come. I'm actually going to buy another one. I would highly recommend this lens hood for anyone with 58m diameter lenses! Thanks Amazon for offering once again other alternatives accessories for my Canon DSLR camera...Charles

Once again, more people are b!tching about this lens hood. It's around $5 so what's the big deal??? Go buy a $75 Canon lens hood and stop complaining! On my Canon kit lens the 55-250mm it fits just fine. The plastic is a hair thin near the top but not a big deal. It's not too tight when you screw / click it on so no worries. There's no wobble or looseness on MY lens. I can unscrew it and turn it facing backwards and it stows just fine on my lens. The lens cap fits fine over it too and when mounted in reverse it sort of protects the lens when you set it down on a table or something like that.-So for $5 or there abouts price wise, I just might by another one as backup or in case I get another T3i kit. By the way, I tested it several times and there's no lens vinginetting at either 55mm or 250mm. I was worried about that because some lens hood shapes will cause that, but not this one. If you compare the look / shape of the $75 Canon lens hood and this one, they look exactly alike.-So save yourself a ton of $$$ and spring for 2 of these. Use one and put the other one away for when the first one wears out... which just being plastic, it will someday.

Fits the lens, and keeps the sun out without vignetting - but is a little tricky to attach to my Canon EF-S 55-250 lens as the bayonet mounts are thin and don't click securely in place..Once you DO get it on, it works as advertised..Inverting it to store it on the lens facing backwards is also a bit tricky to fit, AND on the EF-S 55-250, you can't get your fingers in to hold the lens from turning when snapping this hood into storage position - so you have to extend the zoom, hold the lens barrel, attach the hood, then retract the zoom..BUT: I'll spend five bux here rather than cross Canon's palms with the inordinate amount of silver they want for the ten cents worth of plastic every other lens manufacturer includes in their box!
