When the fuel pump in my GMC pickup died (after 180k miles, so it didn't owe me anything), I noticed that the sending unit hard lines were all heavily rusted. Several actually broke while I tried to disconnect the fuel lines from them. (The fuel lines were horrendously rusted, too ... but that's another matter.) Anyway ... I know Dorman stuff can sometimes be a bit sketchy, but this was considerably less expensive than the AC Delco replacement sending unit, so I figured I'd chance it. It worked great. Fit perfect. I did take the time to clean then paint the "exposed" part of the sending unit with a few coats of primer then a few coats of paint, in an attempt to prevent it from rusting. And while the sending unit did some with a new O-ring to seal it to the tank (actually, I think it came with two ... of different sizes), I used that but also replicated the factory application of wax around the top of the ring and on the top of the sending unit. This, presumably, helps seal in gas vapors and will further help prevent rust/corrosion. The electrical connectors seemed to fit perfectly (both on the new fuel pump and to the truck's wiring harness). And the gas gauge appears to read properly. Overall, I'm very happy with the Dorman fuel sending unit and would definitely purchase one again ... unless this one doesn't last long. (It's only been in the truck a few weeks at this point.)
