I said it all in the title to this review: these tools are sturdy, well designed, and should last you a lifetime.

The handle attachment makes removing a plug impossible, so it’s a weird shaped trowel; not a small plugged. Unsure how it was intended to be used.

I bought this expecting it to function as a bulb planter, but it actually is just a scoop. A bulb planter's function is to pull all of the soil out of the hole to the depth you're planting your bulb. This tool will not do that because the angled bottom allows that soil to drop back into the hole, requiring you go back and scoop that soil out.It is a sturdily built tool its just a shame that the designer chose to angle the bottom. It would function quite well if it was just a full length cylinder.

Total waste of time. Some enterprising person, company decided that they could take their scrap left over tubing, cut one end at an angle, stick a nice wooden handle on it and try to pass it off as a planter. NOT!

This is a great little tool for planting tulips or bulbs. It is very strong and goes through hard packed soil easily. The only negative is that the soil gets stuck easily and you will need a stick or something to dig it out. Other than that, it is great.

This is for crocus bulbs, which are tiny, and this planter did sort of work, *but* I can't give this a really high rating because I know that the larger bulb specific planters have a hollow top, which allows you to retrieve the divet/soil plug you just dug out and then use it to place over the bulb once it is in the ground. This planter does not have that feature. It has a solid back directly attached to the handle, making it a strong, but strangely shaped under performing trowel. If I were to do it over, I would have invested in a smaller sized multipurpose hand trowel or a digging knife/hori-hori type thing, which I bet would have worked perfectly to plant 1000s of crocus bulbs and also be useful for other tasks later in the season.

This is a well made item with a strong digging surface. The only problem is that it's only good for small bulbs unless you make multiple holes.

This tool made a nice deep narrow hole exactly right for my crocus bulbs but there the pleasure stopped. I couldn't get the mini-sod of grass/earth out of the tool as the metal handle stalk protrudes into the void so you can't push it out from the top end. Finally I used an old peg to winkle the soil out from the action end and shove it back into the hole, by which time i was no longer neat and no longer resembled a sod. For a while I thought this difficulty was a blessing as I abandoned the former sod and infilled the holes with better soil mixed with sharp sand, which I think the crocus will appreciate. But I had a lot of bulbs to get in the ground and winkling the heavy soil out of the tool each time took ages. in the end I went back to my trowel, lifting wedges of grass, bunging the bulb under and squishing it back down. Well, it's a clay soil so that was probably time not well saved, we shall see what the bulbs have to say about it.

Most bulb planters are designed for large bulbs. This is for the small variety and seems to be the only one of its kind. Why use a big planter to dig out a bigger hole than you really need? Why cannot the British produce one?The only slight criticism is that Her Majesty the Head Gardener finds it a little heavy considering its size. But it is better to be heavy if it means it is well made.
